I get what you mean. To be pedantic, think fighters that have skills to rival / surpass established great fighters, pure H2H.

If there are thousands, care to share some examples?

There are arguments to be made against the likes of Watanabe and Zapata being great overall. I suppose it comes down to where you draw the line.

There are lots of guys who's skills were on the cusp, more near-great perhaps. Rudkin, Medel, Starling, Caraballo

Ah yeah Caraballo! I thought he was quite skilled in the Harada bout. He couldn't keep up with Harada's whirlwind dynamism.

Shavers (as far as punching, unquestionably in my mind). All he needed was a better chin and more stamina, and imo he would have been possibly a two-time champ.

Donald Curry and Howard Davis Jr. As I've noted elsewhere on this forum, I thought Curry was absolutely magnificent for a stretch before the Honeyghan fight. He may have been up there with Hearns and Leonard. Davis had some of the finest boxing skills. His chin was not great and he didn't have much power, but he still could have beaten champions in his own time. He didn't get the right breaks: matched against Jim Watt when Davis too inexperienced and against Edwin Rosario, who had the right style to beat him. Even so, Davis came so close against Rosario.
