    Bring up Harry Greb

If they say "huh? Who's that?" Ignore every spat out boxing drivel they spew for the rest of your acquaintance

To name a “Goat” for boxing is tough because one can add so many different criteria’s. Belts in different weight classes. Wins. Competition. Style. KOs. Etc etc
I will say this about Mayweather...never seen a guy be able to hit and avoid getting hit against some damn good competition as he was able to do. He’s on my top ten list. Hard to put him at number one with the amount of fights he has compared to say SRR or Pep or Louis and he didn’t fight Manny when they were at their best which to me hurts both their legacies. But he’s hard to argue against a top ten imo

    Have them read this

    https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2015/may/03/floyd-mayweather-manny-pacquiao-sean-ingle

Mayweather was manufactured champion who cared more about being king of the paycheck than king of the hill.

He waited six years so that he could face a much less supersonic version of the Pacquiao who tore through Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito. Meanwhile, the Oscar De La Hoya that Mayweather defeated in 2007 had lost two of his previous four contests (and one of the wins, against Felix Sturm, was widely disputed). And Cotto and Shane Mosley were also past their peaks when – after years of trying – they finally stepped into the ring with Mayweather. He is a classy fighter, sure. But he is a clever matchmaker, too.

I've got Mayweather in my top ten pfp ATGS. He was terrific.

But he wasn't Sugar Ray Robinson, baby.

I’ve generally noticed the people who are most adamant about such things as GOAT and the ones who won’t hear alternating views are often the least informed.

These folks often haven’t heard of probably 75% of what’s on your all-time list. I remember a Mayweather fan telling Mayweather beat Marquez who came up two weights whereas Leonard lost his identical test vs. Marquez and that the Canelo win trumped anything any of the Fab 4 did because Canelo > all of them and Trout was better than Benitez. Also that Berto, Manfredy, Guerrero were all great hall of fame fighters but Duran was overrated and Buchanan, DeJesus, Palamino, Cuevas were “trash” (code: never heard of). Most the Mayweather pompon wavers aren’t boxing fans. They are Mayweather fans. Even today, they root for certain fighters like Canelo because they view it as Mayweather looking better and they trash and hate fighters like Lomachenko whilst probably not even watching these fights.

    Stay away from Mayweather fans.

I mean honestly speaking it’s not a terrible choice. Especially knowing that those people are probably not the most historically informed about boxing.

If they can name 9 other fighters who they think are in contention for the title of Greatest Ever, I'd take the opinion more seriously.
