I was surprised Clarke got the nod to be honest but that's pretty poor overturning it like that. Not like the Russian dominated the whole bout but thought being the home town guy he would get the rub of the green on a close fight and there wouldn't be any controversy over that. This way leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth. He looks like a ruski Andy Ruiz. The cuddly body shape taking over??
The Justis Huni semi final against no 1 seed from Kazakhstan will be live Sat morning around 1.30 am AEST. Link below. Best of luck Justis you have done Aust proud at the World Champ. https://www.aiba.org/ekaterinburg-2019-world-boxing-championships/
These 2 are clearly the top guys in the division and whoever wins this will get the gold imo,Justis up against but let's hope he get's it done
Yeah i met Hall when he played for the bulldogs and have seen him couple other times at the fights and he is a nice bloke and totally the opposite to how he was on the field. I remember years ago there was a lot of talk about Hall getting into boxing when he retired from AFL and he mentioned wanting to have a fight but i heard he got touched up a bit in sparring. I doubt it happens but I hope Hall beats the **** out of and KOs the more experienced Gallen, who is a total grub on and off the field and has built his boxing record beating up scrubs and other ex football players.
Justis Huni has been very ill this week apparently which makes his efforts in winning three fights comprehensively & delivering us a medal at the World Amateur Championships all the more commendable. He had to pull out of the tournament this morning before his semi-final b/c he was too sick to fight. That's one of the pitfalls of fighting a long way from home, I guess. You pick up some kind of bug that you've never had before & it messes you up. When you see what happened to that young American kid in the quarters, I think he made the right decision not to fight. Job done at this tournament winning a medal. The big prize is Gold in Toyko which I think he is capable of achieving. He will likely get a chance to face one (or both) of this tournament's finalists at the Asian & Oceania Olympic qualifying event. Both Kazakhstan & Uzbekistan will compete. We'll see how he goes against them then. Congratulations Justis & Team for going three from three at the World Amateur Championships & bringing home a medal. It's been a great week for Australian boxing.
Aaron Lai was knocked out in four by Reagan Dessaix, who lifted the OPBF light heavyweight title in the bargain (in Lai's third defense), adding to his belt collection alongside the Aussie national championship.
* IBF no 15 LW Jacob Ng defended his IBF International Title with 6 rd ko. * Demsey Mckean new African WBO Champ with 5 rd ko. Demsey will now have world ranking. * Lets hope politics or illness doesn't derail Justis Huni Tokyo Gold medal chances like what happened to Joe Goodall at Gold Coast CMW Games. In his already young career Justis suffered an eye cut which made him withdraw from International Tournament and another injury which made him withdraw from last yr Nationals and of course the illness at Moscow. * Paul Gallen $ 1.82 Barry Hall $ 1.92 * Proposed Hardman vs Kassab off. Kassab fighting for IBO regional title Oct 21. * Forgotten hard punching Steven Spark IBF Youth Champ 140 returning from injury Nov 2. * Johnny Lewis Boxing Series has being discontinued. * The President continues to impress. Only 23 and lost a highly disputed dec earlier this yr to Blake Caparello who fights in World Title Eliminator next fight.
I watched the SHW final this morning - it's posted up on the World Amateur championships thread. Both guys were southpaws & very willing. They'll take some beating at both the Olympics & in the qualifying tournament. Particularly the bloke from Uzbekistan. His southpaw left comes very hard & fast. You can see why that American kid who had never previously been stopped before got scrambled like an egg. The bloke from Kazakhstan was shaken up when hit by it as well. It's a big mountain (literally) for Justis to climb but I do think he's got what it takes to reach the top in Toyko. One thought I did have is that he & that amateur Kiwi H/W David Nyika really do need to get some rounds in against each other. Even if it's only sparring. The Russian the Kiwi lost to in this tournament went on & won the gold so Nyika is definitely right on the pace in terms of being a world class amateur heavyweight. Countries like Russia & Kazakhstan medalled at both SHW & H/W so you know their guys are getting good sparring in preparation for these big tournaments. Justis Huni & David Nyika need to make sure they're getting the same. You can't give away a big advantage to those other countries in terms of preparation & expect to finish in front of them. Justis also needs to keep the sparring up with the likes of Jai Opetaia, Willis Meehan, Joe Goodall & Demsey McKean. Three of those four are southpaws with Jai Opetaia being of similar stature to the bloke from Kazakhstan. The others are tall & long like the Uzbek. It looks like Evander might have presented the medals (although the photo is bit small for me to tell): This content is protected

This content is protected * Talk about an improvement. Aust LHW Clay Waterman stopped Kiwi Jerome Pampellone in 2rd rds earlier this yr. And at recent World AM Champ JP won three fights and beat World no 3 from Egypt and was eliminated by the Great Britain Champ via split dec. JP has being only boxing 3 yrs and is in same stable as David Light ( Peach Boxing ).
That knockout from Waterman was, excuse the pun, a Peach. I didn't realise that was JP till you mentioned it Juppizzle. Jerome impressed me at the worlds. We already knew how good Nyika was, it was good to see some more talent coming up over the dutch. I think Clay may suit the pros more.
Official announcement on Thursday. I don't have any inside info. We're relying on Juppity to spill the beans early. Special guest appearance at the press conference by none other than King Kostya himself....maybe.
