pretty much, there's sparring footage of him training for buddy bear. i sure hope he was ****ing about because if that's his real technique, it consists of walking in, winding up his left hand, throwing it from about 8 feet back and if it didn't land, just running into his opponent. rinse and repeat. like cooper, he must have been fun to watch and he was hard hitting, durable and could make a fight with damn near anyone. that and his personality made him a fighter you wanna like (and i do) but skill wise he was embarassing

He was joking around pretty much, although he would often clown around in real fights as well. Galento seemed to be more down to business against Lou Nova, and got his weight down in order to go 15 rounds.

    Some sparring and training footage:

:lol:thanks for post A. what a ****ing character...

still, he looked significantly better in that footage than either in training for the buddy fight or in the fight with louis itself. he was positively nimble on his feet during the skipping!

    Galento is underrated.
yes, of course he had absolutely no finesse. He was a crunching puncher with a granite chin. he was a roughouse brawler with no respect for the M of Q rules.

but it's wrong to say "no skills". it takes some sort of skill for any 5'9 heavyweight to land punches on guys who went 6'2 or 6'4, as Galento often did. He actaully beat a lot of very good fighters.
against Max Baer, you can even see Galento scoring with ramrod jabs (and that was Tony at his worst). not that Baer knew or cared to avoid a jab ever, but still it's not easy for a 5'9 guy to do that
He also displayed a good shell-like crouch in the early going against Louis.
he was the kind of brawler who could impose his fight on slicker skillful fighters, and he looked for openings. he was crude fighter but not a dumb one

he beats Bert Cooper, by virtue of his chin alone. they would trade blows early and Cooper wouldn't be able to take it

Cooper was the much harder and faster puncher. I think he busts Galento up early and gets the stoppage at some point.

Entertaining fight, tough to say as both were very inconsistent.

Would be a short war, both guys there to kill. I'll take Cooper on cuts in 6
