Being the casual I am,only seen him in the Jacobs fight, the commentators did compare his style to that of Mayweather and that he admired Floyd and tried to copy his “American” style if I remember rightly.
Such a shame injury robbed us from seeing more.

You won't find a bigger fan of his than yours truly, but no.

He's up there for this generation/millennium, though.

Yeah I'll give it to you, I still think Archie Moore or Gene Tunney would be among the best ever technically themselves or even Ricardo Lopez the absolute legend he is.

Pirog did not have a long enough career. He was certainly a talent. His technique and movement were definitely up there.

If he could have stuck around longer who knows what he could have done.

No, he did not over physical people. He more used technique and angles to create openings and score in creative ways.

Pirog in retrospect reminds me of Loma and Usyk. Eastern European highly technical boxers. Not bangers but gifted and creative in their ability to get hits without getting hit.

For what it's worth, Pirog was behind on the score cards when he lowered the boom n DJ. But, the great ones always seem to find a way to win. Dude had tremendous upside. Shame he was cut down in his prime.

    It's interesting.

I was never sold on the hype surrounding Pirog.

But if I was to play devil's advocate here we could argue that his best victory at MW is better than the best victory that Golovkin has at MW.

Yet we argue Pirog is not proven enough and no one would doubt how proven Golovkin is.

    Interesting.

"East Euro Toney" is one hell of a description when you think about it. I'm not certain that he was tied to stationary counter punching as Toney was so I'm not certain that it's really the best comparison. Being compared to Toney is an honor IMO. Toney was a timeless fighter. I could imagine him battling the Jersey Joe, Ezzard Charles, and Archie Moore's of the world.

You should find another sport if you cant sleep at night because of other peoples success in this new globalized world of boxing.

    Lol

USA honestly doesnt even care about boxing, barely any of our best athletes would ever bother with it as they can make 10x as much in the NBA, NFL etc etc.

We have only niche participation in it, our amateur system has fallen apart because nobody cares

Compare that to these other countries who take it so seriously and invest millions into amateurs

We throw out nba rejects like wilder and obese men lije ruiz and they STILL are the best in the sport. Our WORST beat yo best.

    I know it hurts.

Excuses excuses, tsk tsk tsk. Boxing is also not the first choice of professions for people outside the United States either, boxing has always been an individual sport where people need the mental fortitude to participate, being an athlete isnt enough, you need to be a warrior. It takes a special person to want to get punched in the face for a living, this will always hold true. Opinionofacasual you really are a casual.
