Frank beat one of my relatives, and quite easily.. I was a young boy at the time (12 years old) and from that point I wanted Frank to do well. He was my introduction to boxing on tv. So I grew up though the hype and stayed quite loyal to Frank throughout it all. If you wanted to be a heavyweight boxing fan, you didn’t have much other choice in the early 1980s on U.K. tv. We only got hilights of the champions and the bbc went balls deep on Frank Bruno. Every single one of his fights were televised. All of them. I think he must have been the first boxer they did that with. clearly there were greater fighters of more fluent styles and such like..but for many years the wholesome corny image presented for him held up quite well. and he was something of a national hero/ role model right when boxing was under fire from a national ban boxing brigade. Bruno was no all time great. There are very few heavyweight champions from history he could have beat..if any, but he was brave and decent.
