Is Mike Tyson's intimidating aura a real thing that helped him win fights?

Some were. Spinks for sure. Berbick and Biggs, the Ali wannabes, looked weary.

The big experienced grapplers like Bonecrusher didn't give a ****.

Spinks looked terrified imo. Even Larry was effected. There were a couple in the 90s whom didn't look pleased at all to be there.

I know Golota beat Bowe twice and yet he was apparently scared poopless of Mike...

Mark. Mike Tyson himself was never real. After Laary Holmes defended against Smith boxing ended for lack of interest. So the networks looked for out of work actors to play fighter and stage fights like movies. Tyson was an actor who played Sly on "James at 15". It has all been studio driven since. The DeLaHoya actor later had a hit single as Ricky Martin. You look exactly like Boom boom Mancini while the same actor played both Hector Camacho and Paulie Malinagi. Every now and then to make o t appear real, a real fighter like Larry Holmes would come on the set for an episode to make the star tyson appear to beat a real great fighter.

One of the most dubious but interesting posts I've read here. Creative is a better word.

I don’t think they were defeated before they even entered the ring...but once you’re in there with a guy who has that kind of speed and power it’s hard to stick to your game plan...a lot of Manny Pac-man’s opponents have the same look on their faces ....”Everyone has a plan until they get hit”

It was all intentional on Mike's part. He wasn't simply trying to look tough.

My friend, you must be kidding about Bonecrusher! Apart from the last round, he had only survival on his mind, thus the name change to Boneclutcher!

I think that may have been the only time I saw Holmes unsure when stepping into the ring against an opponent; he'll deny it, but whether it was due to being out of the ring for two years or the thought of what he was about to face - Larry did NOT want to be there that night. Shavers may have hit as hard or harder, but Tyson fought with a scary intensity in those days that was unlike anyone else Holmes had fought.

being a Seinfeldian who could act out the entire series, I nominate you for post of the decade. I bow to your comic greatness of Philly one.

Spinks often looked like that before his fights.

It may have effected the nature of the win, but I doubt he really won because of it.
