I will try to give a serious reply later. I think Pintor could hold his own and be respectable against most guys from any era....except chandler of course
Lupe Pintor pushed Wilfredo Gomez to the absolute brink, and even though he got a robbery against Zarate, he still put up a very capable, gallant performance against Zarate where most world class fighters were brutally outclassed by Zarate. Based on that I'd say Lupe gives Olivares an honorable run for his money. It's hard to say at what point in Ruben's career he becomes vulnerable/dissipated enough that Lupe can convincingly beat him.
After some reflection he could beat any version of Olivares on any given night. He could certainly be able to duplicate a Chucho type performance in 70 or even of Herrera in 72. Now I wouldn’t make him the favorite but my gut says if they fought 2-3 times between 70-72 Pintor would at least pick up 1 win. By 73-74 version I think it is still a tough fight but the Olivares of between Hafey/Arguello was one I would feel comfortable picking Pintor in. By 75 Olivares would be at a decided disadvantage and very unlikely to beat Lupe at this point unless an underprepared version of Pintor shows up (perhaps the Murata version, but I don’t want to detract from Murata’s performances against Pintor/Chandler). 69-72 Olivares is the favorite but Pintor could certainly beat him on a given night. 72-73 50/50 they might split or have an epic trilogy 74+ Pintor should beat him in most hypotheticals
By the time Ruben lost to Herrera I think Pintor would then have a decent chance of turning the trick. It's not unimaginable that he could edge out the Olivares of the second Castillo fight but I wouldn't bet on it; that fight was damned close even though Olivares was slightly off colour and Castillo in the zone. I do think that Pintor might always be a tough fight for Olivares though even if the latter was at his best. Tough and skilled at pressuring enough to invade Olivares comfort zone and push him back. I could see Olivares being forced to box and manoeuvre a bit more than usual. Then again, Pintor was a slow starter and his pressure was quite steady and methodical, so it's very possible that Olivares, who was often very quick out of the trap, could pound him early and catch him cold if Lupe was too slow to close the gap.
. In the movie "SIGN OF THE PAGAN" Jeff Chandler defeats Attilla the Hun. His greatest victory on film. Pintor for bottleneck Jeff would be a bridge too far me and I know Phillyfan thunks.
Thanks....it’s a handful of posters like you that I “respect and appreciate” that made me want to come back!
The place isn't the same without you mate, it's just been me and @roughdiamond talking about Chan Hee-Park. I've had more time than usual of late to keep bobbing in and out. Does anyone know where @Russell is btw? He told me to post more often, so I have, but he's gone and fecked off. I know he's like me that his interest waxes and wanes a bit....
His whole youtube channel got deleted for copyright (not even about boxing) . He had rare bouts and everything. Don't think he cares much after that, though he posts in the RBR's.
