Prime Jerry Quarry vs Prime Pinklon Thomas

Who takes it?

 

I would go with Pinklon, I think he would edge...but I could be convinced to change my pick with the right dialogue to the contrary

This fight would be a marked resemblance to the Feb 3 1968 bout with Thad Spencer, in the semi final in the WBA heavyweight tournament, to find a successor to Muhammad Ali, who had been stripped of his World Heavyweight title, for refusing military induction in 1967. Spencer started out fast, landing the quick left jab and scoring with swift blows to Jerry's reddened face. The in round 12, Quarry connected, and it was over for Thad, as Jerry kept raining on Spencer with hard combinations to the so called master boxer, from Portland, Oregon. Pinklon, a much bigger opponent than Spencer, would establish his hard left jab and good lateral movement. Quarry would work the body and dig punishing left hooks, to rob Thomas of his stamina. After a cut above the left eyebrow, Jerry rallies to take a unanimous decision in twelve action packed rounds. This is prime 1968 Jerry Quarry and prime 1984 Pinklon Thomas.

 

Jerry easily. Better fighter puncher more active chin all of it. Stoppage in 9. Quarry fought during heavyweights greatest era. Thomas during the post Holmes bigtitty heavyweight doper slob era. No ****ing comparison. R. I. P. Warrior Jerry Quarry

 

I agree, Jerry was a warrior who did fight at a better time, and against some of the best heavyweights.

 

Thomas by decision or a stoppage on cuts.

 

Washed up Thomas took the best blows of Holyfield and Bowe. Prime Thomas took the best of Mike Weaver. Can't see Quarry stopping him in 9.

 

Pinklon Thomas in his prime had a masterful jab and an overall decent skill set. Altering having an off night against Berbick, he lost his championship. Then he ran into a prime Mike Tyson. Prime Tyson in ‘87. Iron Mike beat the hell out of him round one, but couldn’t close it out and Thomas went to work. Jab. Jab. Jab. Won a few rounds before Tyson figures out the puzzle. Check that fight out if you haven’t seen it. Tyson hit him with eleven to twelve punches in a row that looked like fcuking war crimes, and Thomas didn’t go down until the end. Even tried to get up.

I just don’t see Quarry being able to crack Pinky in his prime. Pinklon Thomas TKO round 9+. Maybe a UD.

 

Pinky by decision. It takes a lot more than a stumpy facedown plugger like Quarry to beat prime Thomas.

 

Quarry imo ,he was an excellent counter puncher, had good hand speed and durability, and a dangerous wallop.
Thomas had a fine jab and a good right hand, but that's about it. He was predictable and not very quick,he did have a very good chin.

 

Quarry the far better fighter. He should win going away unless he gets cut.

 

Are you forgetting that Jerry almost decked Thad in the first round and that he did deck him twice along way before scoring the tko?
