1973-1974, 15 rounds, 20x20 ring, 10 point must scoring system They fought many of the same opponents. Who takes it?
I got a draw, both have great strengths and weaknesses and if both bring there A game then it's so close to split em.
I would favor Bugner to win a decision, but I do think it could legitimately go the other way as well.
Apparently they sparred early in Joe's career and a seasoned Quarry mauled him a bit. I can see an older, more confident Bugner tapping his way to a decision win. Quarry often struggled against those types and Bugner was a pretty big, durable heavy for his time.
Either bugner close decision or possibly a draw. Quarry would be very frustrated by bugners cautious style. He was one of the first Heavies to properly "fight tall" and use his length to make a guy fight at his pace. A knockout is highly unlikely if not impossible given that even frazier and Ali couldn't stop bugner. I just don't see quarry taking this outside of a freak cut or home town robbery.
Quarry UD. All Jerry would have to do is mix it up a bit with Bugner, and then Bugner goes into his survival mode like he did against all top competition.
Quarry whips his apathetic, underachieving ass, like all Bugner's quality opponents did. What makes you think that the This content is protected could beat Jerry Quarry? Maybe he could beat the Quarry of Ali ll, or the Norton fight,...otherwise...
Hi Red! Blessings! Currently 'circumnavigating' retirement options. Based on the parameters of the post (73-74) I might take Quarry in a 73 scrap but, by 1974, divorced, coked up Jerry would probably get UD'd by the modern day version of Ernie Terrell. Key word in your post is "underachieving". Give me ONE quality Bugner win? "Never has so little been accomplished with so many skills." I still like bringing this up; a Terrell-Bugner fight? You could give me ringside, free suds and dogs, and I'd still opt to stay home for that 'snoozefest'. My $0.02
I cannot believe how great Joe Bugner has become on boxing 24 (almost legendary Godlike Proportions!), he never defeated anyone in the top ten, including Henry Cooper! Jerry's common opponent vs Bugner is twice as good, 1973 Jerry would have knocked Bugner out! Bobbing Bugner could not defeat, Bodell, Middleton, Lyle, Shavers . And ***** punching Joltin Joe is gonna defeat the Bellflower Bomber? Yank Durham said they only way to beat Quarry was combinations, Bugner did not throw combinations at Jurgen Blin COME ON!
