Riddled with lie after lie

Shawn Porter amateur record 276-14, fought Usyk when he was 19 not as you say 18, and turned pro when he was 20 (a few weeks away from his 21st birthday).

“I’ve been boxing since I was 4 years old. My dad started me in the gym and I started competing at 8. God gives everyone gifts. You have to figure out what your gift is and use it to honor Him.”

So he'd been actually competing since he was 8, Usyk didn't even take up the sport until he was 15 and Porter fought in the International Junior Olympics in 2003 so he'd been competing in international events for at least 3 years prior to facing Usyk

'Groomed by his father, the tank-like Ohioan boasts an impressive 276-14 amateur slate. In 2003, aged 15, young Shawn bagged a silver medal at the Junior Olympics then, the following year, struck gold at the Pan American Cadets meet in Colorado Springs. He also represented the US at the 2006 World Junior Championships in Agadir, Morocco.

Usyk 335-15, fought Porter when he was 19 (a few months shy of his 20th birthday) and was a few months shy of his 27th birthday when he turned pro.

And even though Usyk was taller than Porter, pretty much everyone Porter faces is, he was campaigning down at a MW when he fought Porter and he obviously had a growth spurt and filled out a lot after that, ''Einstein.'' Hence why he moved up in weight and he obviously improved a great deal as he acquired more experience.

But don't take my word for it

“He was tall, rangy, had a great jab and even back then he had very good boxing moves. He knew his range really well, he knew his distance really well which is something a lot of fighters take time to work out properly.

“He didn't waste punches and he was really, really competitive - everything you see now. I think since we fought he has grown another three or four inches. He was relatively tall when we fought, and [he has packed on weight].

“I was a lot quicker than he was. It was really his height and range against my speed and quickness. It was back in 2006 and I just missed out on the Olympics in 2008. I thought he had too, but he made it, just didn't do much in comparison to 2012.

“I remember when he was back and was in the 2012 Games, he was much bigger. I remembered his name and just couldn't believe it was actually him. It was then I knew he would be a force.

Korobov beat Usyk too.. so what? I can find numerous examples of amateur matchups where one guy would go onto outgrow the other as their careers progressed into the pros.. Joe Calzaghe beat HW Chris Byrd as an amateur for example..

The clue would be in the teenage part of your post.. Do you think Porter would beat Usyk now? LOL Because I certainly don't & i don't think Porter would think so either..

Good Lord. Are you still seriously trying to paint Shawn Porter as some wildly more experienced fighter than Usyk?

Shawn Porter is 10 months younger than Usyk. 10 months. If Porter and Usyk fought during the WEEKS they were both the same age - when Porter JUST turned 19 and Usyk was just about to turn 20, great.

Usyk was more mature, older, bigger and had more experience - winning a medal in the European Championships - and had no business losing to Porter.

    But Porter won.

If it makes you feel better because you think Shawn Porter had "so much experience" fighting second graders when he was eight, that's nice.

And first you said Porter had more experience because he started fighting at 4. Now it's 8. Now you say Shawn Porter "says" he started competing at 8, where? (Since you have to be 10 at minimum to compete in the silver gloves). Feel free to post all the fights he had when he was in second grade. I'd love to read about all the WARS he was in second grade that gave him the big advantage over Usyk (Christ).

    What a dumb thread.

What are you guys talking about?

Someone was bashing Errol Spence for fighting close with Porter last night and they said Briedis was better than Porter.

All I said was Porter beat Usyk. Because he did.

Usyk turned 20 a few weeks after fighting Porter. Usyk wasn't a child, either. He wasn't inexperienced.

My point was basically don't bash Spence for fighting close with Porter and try to elevate Usyk ... because Usyk didn't beat Porter when he fought him.

But the hysterical ladies on this board seem to have gotten their panties in a bunch.

    That's it.

Idiotic. The only thing that was exposed was that Spence is not that much better than the rest of the division like many love to preach to the high heavens about. Hes a terrific fighter but so is Porter. Porter gives anybody a tough fight so stop underselling him because the dude is legit. This is a great era for the WW division and I look forward to some great fights.

If Usyk were to move up to heavyweight and rule with the same dominance he showed at cruiser then he can have some claim as p4p #1.
Untill then, he can sit behind nore deserving boxers at lower weights who have won multiple belts at multiple weights.

Because it's been a year since he fought, coming off a victory over a career light heavyweight, and now he's going to break that fast with a fight against a kickboxer?
