Might go down as his career best performance. Like you say, be very hard to repeat that, especially as Spence should improve. Would love to see a rematch though if it's similar outcome.
I thought there were a lot of low blows from Spence that the ref didn't see. Not Salido level but a lot.
To me it was the curse of September 28, the same night Norton got screwed by Ali. It was the classic bias of giving the A-side any even or close rounds. Yeah, in other words, I thought Porter won 9 rounds. Yes, that's right: 9 rounds. He was faster, worked harder, was less dirty and, aside from the knockdown shot, landed the more dramatic punches. Spence didn't impress me: slow, mechanical, dirty, nothing special. I also thought Porter beat Thurman. And don't get me wrong: I don't have a special thing for Porter. I'm neutral on him. But I think he's been majorly screwed a couple of times now.
This isn't necessarily true. He was knocked down heavily, and that might make a fighter believe he deserved to lose. He can go and watch the fight later and disagree.
Feel sorry for porter...think hes outworking these guys but the boxing judges aren,t giving him much back for it. Hes pretty inaccurate but he often isnt being credited with his work imo. Hes also being penalised because he doesnt complain much. Spence went low too often in that fight last night. Sometimes i think boxing judgings a bit unfair...porter creates the fight....gets inside bangs in 3 or 4 punches...some hit some miss but he pushes spence back...spence chucks one decent punch in the exchange in retaliation. Its seen as him winning the exchange. We almost credit defensive boxing more than aggresion. I m not sure porters ever really been beat. Always thought he beat brook, thurman and now spence. Hard nights work for anyone. Maybe spence sneaked it with thd knockdown but to me it looked like porters win up till then. Brook, thurman fights both razor tight as well. Good fighter porter. Its not always pretty, but his will and workrates up there with any of them.
Nods like a man when he finds his girl blowing the local dealer....”Yep I knew this trash was going to betray me and nods in agreement “ Nuff said
True. The last two rounds clinched it for Spence in my eyes. I had it even until the 11th. I could also see Porter being up two rounds before then. I felt the distance and pace was mostly dictated by Porter until the last three rounds. Great fight. Sure Spence got a W but Porter won over a lot of fans. He'll get bigger fights. Good outcome for both.
Yeah there probably was, however he let the fight flow. Although it's breaking / bending the rules it is part of professional boxing. Like you said though, he maybe didn't see some of them.
Very good post. Here's a question? Is Porter the hardest/toughest man in boxing? In the category that Salido use to be?
