Yes it was. Turned out to be a very good style matchup for Billy Joe, and a bad one for Lemmy too.
It even led to underrating Lemieux in such a way that a lot of them actually favored O'Sullivan (who had gotten the exact same treatment from BJS years before) over him.
No need for a rematch.

 

I still have no idea why they are putting BJS on this card. He will never appeal to this audience. Saunders has always been and always will be one for the boxing purists. I dont get the logic here, are they expecting him to appear on this then all of a sudden he fills a stadium?

 

Ive been listening to some youtubers recenlty about this and it seem that people see this as clout chasing. I dont think any pro boxer is going to be well received from any of these fans.

 

Agreed. Boxing is basically ultra-niche in the UK now.

"Youngsters" see it as an old man's sport. Anyone who tries getting into it is immediately greeted with a 6-12 month wait for their "favourite" fighter to batter 2 cans before a real matchup. Then they have to endure commentators literally lying to them in their own living room about how good some bum opponent is.

A quick twitter search and they can find all they need to know about what the real story is.

It's still operating on a shill and PR version from the 80's. Times have changed. In a society fixated on instant gratification, it's simply behind the times in the UK.

I've noticed since AJ took a loss even the semi-interested casuals aren't bothered now.
