Spence Isn't in the top 5, yet Crawford is? Based on what? The fact that we think he is good/great or because he beat Horn and Kahn? Where is Crawford's Shawn Porter who, as you put it, Is a "limited brawler"

    Who
I think it's premature to call Spence overrated. He did fight a guy that is very difficult to look good against. Brook probably looked the best against him and still had a tough night.

Spence is currently underrated. He just beat a good champion at his own game but is being criticized for not blowing him out. Porter makes everyone look bad.

It boils down to styles make fights Thurman and Brook are mobile boxer punchers Spence is a stalker.....as everyone keeps saying Porter is a gut check for anyone no ifs, ands or buts you are going to fight for 12 rds and fight hard to win. The only difference between the fights is movement and Spences better inside fighting....fights are about styles matchups and Porters people knew that they could pressure Spence because Spence doesn't dance...Ugas fight doesn't mean anything a different fighter and poor choice of style by Porter who tried to box and not pressure like he did Spence...there is no secret to strategy with Brook and Thurman Porter had to try and cut them off and corner them with Spence he knew he had to pressure him and keep him on his back foot otherwise Spence at range would have had the advantage. Porter is like a welterweight Joe Frazier

    Yes.

But being overrated is rather common. Imo, the vast majority of the prominent fighters of the last 10 years have been overrated at some point of their careers.

To me, being overrated comes with the territory for undefeated champions that hadnt been tested yet.

Now weve seen Spence 'fall short' in back to back performances, despite getting the W's, and his level is becoming a bit more apparent. And the very fact he was expected to stop Mikey and not be as troubled by Porter as he was, is proof that the publics perception of Spences level, and where hes actually at, werent quite level. He was indeed overrated.

That being said, hes still one of, if not the (imo) best welters in the world, and unless he moves up to 154, or fights Crawfod, hes likely to remain undefeated for quite a bit longer, imo.

If you think Spence is underrated, than you dont have the right grasp and context of what those words (overrated, underrated) mean in the grand scheme of things.

The very fact that the odds almost universally had Spence at -860 against Porter, with the majority of the boxing world thinking that while he wouldnt have an easy time, but that he would have an easier time than he did have, and very possibly stop Porter, are objective data points pointing to how, yes... Spence was overrated.

That you feel the win was a very good win, against a very good opponent, and that it was unrealistic to think that Spence would dominate him, doesnt negate the fact that in general, Spence was overrated (and Porter probably underrated) going into the bout.

You don’t have the right to comment on my post if you can’t grasp that “currently” does not refer to Saturday afternoon.

I think A lot of these Welter's are around the same ability

Even when Spence beat Brook, it was an awfully close fight and I wonder if Brook had of fought Spence before GGG, would it have been any different?

I think Crawford is probably the best of the bunch now and I would make him a favourite over everyone.

Obviously if Manny was in his prime he would beat all these guys. He still MIGHT be the best of the bunch, who knows?

What I will say is Welterweight is a sh1t hot division and I hope they keep making these big fights to find out who is number 1 in the division

My money is on Bud, but if I am honest I would of probably favoured Spence before the weekend.

It's funny how fickle fans can be, me included. Maybe I am judging Spence too harshly as he still got the win and Porter is no mug.

Indeed he won’t beat Canelo based on his physicality. So that leaves skills, as you say, and I reckon Canelo humbles Spence. It’s a leap of faith to suggest otherwise. Which is fine, if you believe in Spence. But going on their records, and using the eye test, Spence has shown me nothing to convince me.

    Wasn't he considered a *b level* amateur?

I'd consider him a tad overrated, yes. His movement is the weakest part of his game imo.

SPENCE IS STILL ONE OF THE TOP WELTERWEIGHTS IF NOT THE TOP. I CANT SEE WHY EVERYONE THINKS ALL BC IT WAS A CLOSE FIGHT THAT SPENCE GOT EXPOSED. ALL THE FIGHTERS THAT BEAT PORTER DIDNT DO IT ANY BETTER. PORTER HAS GOTTEN BETTER WITH HIS LOSSES AND WOULD GIVE MANNY, CRAWFORD, AND ANY OTHER WELTER WEIGHTS A TOUGH NIGHT.
