Great fight. I gave it to Spence 116-111. It would have been 116-112 but is not due to the knockdown. Spence took the championship rounds and Porter was game.
Spence has already said if he does not fight Garcia, Pacquiao or Crawford next he will give Porter a rematch
Lets have your take on it then. Too much on this forum of people telling others they are stupid without an explanation of why.
Looking at the poll, most had Spence winning. Just shows though what a really good competitive fight it was. Personally I had Spence by a couple of rounds. It is not a bellwether for how Spence does against Crawford, he had to deal with a top pressure fighter, who gives pretty much anybody one of the hardest nights work of their career. Spence adjusted to it, went to war for a good while, and managed to come out on top....just.
Someone is saying on another thread that Spence wants a rematch. If this is accurate, hats off to Spence. It was one of my favorite fights of the year. Both guys looked good and fought hard. Not sure what else Porter can do but if they fight I’m sure both guys will show up in shape and slug it out. I’m buying the rematch if it goes down.
How I saw it. The recording I just watched had punchstats listed per round, to which I agreed Spence overall landed more. Rounds 2,3,8 all tossup rounds for me. Round 7 interesting I gave to Porter, but noticed that he used his feet quite a bit, to which Spence cut the ring off effortlessly. Spence won the fight hands down, but didn't win any rounds dominantly, he had to earn them. Really good fight for boxing & casual fans alike.
Draw or a Porter win if you include all the points deductions from Spence for his Salido low blowing all night This will probably only be available to watch for UK residents This content is protected
115-112 Spence (initially 114-113 Spence) Thought he won more comfortably after my second viewing. It’s the intangible things, the things that don’t come through in Punch stats that really jumped out. I thought he did a great job of blocking and stifling Porters attacks, slipping his bull rushes, and answering back Porters fouling, which Shawn gets away with because of its volume, and the fact that “it’s his style,” so referees are numbed to it. Has he ever had a point destructed for a headbut? Ever? Anyway. I loved the way Spence committed to hitting Porters squatty/crouched body even at the risk of repeated low blows. Because of Porters stature and style it’s gotta be hard to catch them all. I also loved how Spence draped himself all over Porters back and made him carry his weight. Can’t help to think that those tactics, along with his body attack paid off with the knockdown.
I felt the fight was close. There was 2-3 rounds that felt like they could go either way. The knock down made all the difference.
