That might be a good example. This is not to say that Machen would win, but he would do better than their respective resumes would suggest, and he would make foreman look bad.
Jeffries, johnson, dempsey, tunney, sharkey, louis, ali, young, quarry, holyfield, holmes, maybe liston defeat the big guy ...maybe a couple of others
Obviously Ali. I think Holmes would have been a problem... even if they would have fought in the 90's. Lennox Lewis could be a problem but I think at some point Foreman lands something that changes the course of rhe fight.
In his prime: Good boxers with strong chins Ali and Young exposed hos limitations. Holmes would have been a tough matchup for him, but Holmes didn't have as good a chin as Ali or Young, and could be slopoy defensively. George would have a punchers chance. In the 90s: Average boxers who utilized movement. Morrison used this strategy. Even a 1993 version of Tubbs could have boxed circles around George. George would have to hand a haymaker to win that matchup Anyone with decent speed and power who had a decent chin, even if they didn't use lateral movement would have presented George with major problems Holyfield and Stewart demonstrated this. Bowe and Mercer would have likely punished him. Lewis, too, but George would have a punchers chance, but most likely he doesn't land a KO blow on the faster Lewis.
Definitely agree with Tyson. People always bring up Foreman’s fights with the similarly sized Frazier when discussing a matchup with Tyson but Tyson not only weighed around the same as the young Foreman but was much faster than Frazier, especially in handspeed, had knockout power in both hands, threw better combos and imo had a better chin. Not a forgone conclusion because Foreman’s power gave him a chance against anyone he met but my money would be on prime Tyson.
Foreman in his prime would destroy Tyson. He was a physically imposing fighter, immensely strong, deceptively quick, with crushing power in either fist. Add to this Sn iron chin with the will to win of an ATG fighter. Tyson would have lost the fight before he ever walked into the ring.
