He's ****ed either way, Martinez cleans him out again if he stays at the weight, if he moves up in weight he's food for the likes Estrada, Ioka etc. He may as well take the rematch, see what happens and go from there. I think by doing this, it actually does more damage to his career in the long run.

Who says he doesn't get smashed to bits in the rematch?

Takes a beating that could end a career.

    The man has his number.

Could say that about almost every rematch where someone gets the better of someone in the first fight.

AJ was getting severly battered against Ruiz and ended up taking big punches when he was concussed, should he back out of the rematch as well?

Look how long Edwards spent fighting awful opposition after his loss up until the Rosales fight, that's what he's going back to.

If you think a rematch with Martinez could end is career, imagine what some of those super-flys are going to do to him

The raging queen should have given Martinez the chance to earn the title in the ring.

After all it was only due to hot headedness that Martinez didn’t get the early icing win

Why have a rematch with him, it would be like what Navarrete did to Dogboe. He got blitzed in the first fight and had no answer for it, why face being inevitably ironed out by the kid? Fighters steer their way through their careers avoiding certain fighters but trying to face named opponents at the right time ie Junior vs Degale, to raise their stock and value. I’m not a fan of the lad but it was a wise choice.

Yeah you are probably right with everything you are saying. However psychologically he ain't up for the rematch.

With hindsight down the line, we will be able to revise this topic. Let's see what happens with Edwards in the next couple years.

It was a wise choice but it was embarrassing. All those interviews in the weeks afterwards saying there’s no way he’d vacate and would have a rematch.

I agree about that, the lad is cringeworthy at the best of times.

The thing is he didn't land a punch in the first fight and got absolutely battered, it wasn't as if he had any success to think it might be different next time. If he moves up he is moving up to a even better division so good luck Charlie.

Now that's a twist. But that means he either has to fight Martinez again or completely look like a tool if he vacates anyway.

Totally, he comes across as a wee tit. I know he wouldn't rematch him as you say would be a lamb to the slaughter. When he took the punch when he was down he rolled around like neymar. He only stopped rolling as he was in danger of rolling out the ring.

It was embarrassing mate, although it was an illegal shot, the reaction was not something you would associate with a boxing ring.
