What's the possibility of a boxer being a champion (or a good boxer) in the pros with little to no amateur experience?
Fighting Harada, one of boxing's most legendary fighters, had no amateur bouts. However, he went pro at a young age.
A lot of young Mexican fighters back on the day turned pro at a young age with little to no experience. (can’t say they were very successful though) But it’d say it’s possible.
It’s said that Canelo only had 20 fights or less as a amateur, either way he never won anything important as a amateur since he turned pro at 15 so it doesn’t really count. Hopkins didn’t have any amateur fight what I know of, he did have his prison fights though. Dwight Muhammad Qawi have no documented amateur fights.
Yes its been done before. Duran only had 10 or 12 amateur fights I believe. Mundine had no amateur fights. Lots of these amateur records are exaggerated imo. How many did guys like Arguello and Monzon have?
Definitely. It ultimately comes down to how ambitious and dedicated the fighter is, since plenty of former Olympic champions have entered the pro ranks and failed to become champions. Billy Conn, Dwight Qawi, Johnny Famechon, and Chris Algieri are a few that I can think of that had no amateur experience and became champions. Harold Johnson I believe had one amateur fight before turning pro.
What kind of question is this? Mexicans do it all the time. Turn pro at 15 or whatever and make it from there.
