Joe Bugner vs Jerry Quarry

I know we can't believe everything we hear or read, but after he fought Bugner, Ali said "some of Joe's right hands he caught me with, semi-knocked me out" I read this in a post fight write up in a boxing mag. It was either the Ring or Boxing Illustrated. Make of that statement what you will.

You can say Quarry did much better 13-5-1 (7 knockouts) vs Bugner's opponents. 10 of those were either Champion or World ranked (5 wins)
Bugner in comparison 6-7 (2 Ko) 5 of those were ranked or Champion (no wins).

And Name me Bugner's top ten wins, (TAKE YOUR TIME)
Quarry had 9 (5 )by knockout, 2 of those the fighter was ranked number #1 (Spencer, Foster)

As I said before, I'm no more of a Bugner fan as I am of Quarry, they were both good contenders in what I remember as a great era, but seeing some of the names of "great" boxers of the past on here, I sometimes think peoples memories can get clouded with age.
And, I am being cool with you Ronny, I am starting to like you.
Oh, and I did take my time, I had no choice with Quarry's list!!!!

 

omg I MAY NOT BE THE ONLY ONE "WHO'S CLOUDED" NONE OF THOSE GUYS WERE RANKED , DO ME A FAVOR WATCH THE BONECRUSHER-BUGNER FIGHT , AND GIVE ME AN "HONEST " OPINION, QUARRY WOULD BE FIGHTING FOR A TITLE EVERY FIGHT TODAY. Jerry's record ve Opponents is twice as good as Bugner, Jerry beat Foster, Bodell, Middleton, lyle and Shavers when they were at their best, or punching best Ali and Frazier in their primes, Bugner fought Frazier, Ali after their primes ! Richard Dunn would not make a good sparring partner for Quarry, I heard Bugner did not either.

Bugner fought for a lot of nothing titles over 3rd raters and old past it has beens.He lost when he fought for the genuine title and he would never have beaten prime Lyle, Shavers ,Foster, or a still rated Patterson ,

 

Not another Quarry nuthugger. Titles are titles, however insignificant to the majority of armchair boxing fans (especially on here) When you are fighting for a title, it means everything to the two fighters in the ring. The majority on here wouldn't know what that feels like. Those "nothing" titles are more than what perhaps the majority of casuals will ever earn. As you mention 3rd raters, I can vividly remember a 42 year old Quarry fighting Ron Cranmer in 1992 and looking like a 3rd rater himself. And before you scream to his defence saying he was shot and should not have been in the ring, it was HIS CHOICE. On the other hand, Bugners last fight was a 49 year old fighting a much younger Levi Billups who he was easily beating before Billups was disqualified for low blows.

 

So what. Jeff Merrit broke Earnie's jaw in the gym with sparring gloves on. 3years before he met Quarry, Shavers was knocked out by Ron Stander.

 

Shavers was a ranked heavyweight when Quarry beat him.How many ranked heavies did Bugner beat?
