I'd be surprised if Fury gets anywhere near ATG. And that goes for the other champs...though I think Deontay (with a much better, tried and true trainer) and Ruiz (a couple of more kos over top fighters) have more potential. Fury's whole fighting style has SO much to do with his overall size imo. One of the most embarrassing things about him (besides him "retaining" his title against a better Wilder) is his bizarrely lacking punching power. No offense to fans, I'm just waiting for the big ko that I feel is definitely on its way to Fury. Someone's going to Ruiz him.
First of all...Floyd has a history of being troubled by fighters with good jabs ...he’s not a puncher and he doesn’t have a great chin...so he can’t go attack Hearns the way that Hagler did . I don’t understand how you can call Hearns one dimensional...He was about as good as an offensive fighter has you’ll ever see . I’m not confident Floyd would figure him out because it’s not as if Floyd faced every style there was .Ray Leonard and Wilfred Benitez couldn’t outbox Thomas Hearns from the outside.Virgil Hill couldn’t do it
I look at Sugar Ray Robinson’s fights with Carmen Basilio and Gene Fullmer and he doesn’t look to me like a great inside fighter .
Will go to my grave thinking Paul Williams at Welter decisions Mayweather. 5 inch height advantage, 7 inch reach advantage, who gains extra lbs from the weigh in. There is a reason Floyd chose to semi-retire when Paul called him out. Without a Martinez heavy handed punch, how does he stop PW from throwing 90+ times a round? He doesn't.
Maybe the old Foreman, but not the 70's version. Byrd was not as elusive as Jimmy Young, nor did he have Young's set of whiskers. Young Foreman would have caught and beheaded Chris before the 6th at least. Do you really think Byrd would have done any better than Tubbs or Mathis Jr against Tyson?
I think he was a lot better imo than the Tubbs that Tyson beat and Mathis jnr. I think his style would have given Tyson real problems. Bryd s chin wasn't that bad either, not solid but definitely not glass. I reckon he'd have more chances of beating Tyson than Foreman for the reason you mentioned but I still think he'd have a chance. He'd have to take em in to the latter round s and avoid the early danger rounds against Tyson tho.
