I completely agree with this post. I'm southern Irish, so you wound expect I'd be a fan of Michael conlon. The guy seems nice, his skill set is outstanding, but his events are pathetically noninclusive. I think Michael, whether he wants to or not, has a responsibility to include both sides in Northern Ireland, but he's just pro republican. Compare him to carl Frampton, who is from a loyalist area (Pro Britain, Anti Irish). Yet his fights where so inclusive that both Republicans and loyalists where welcome. I personally went to 3 of his fights in Belfast and at the second kiko martinez fight was in the stands with guys from the shankill Road (anti Southern Ireland) these guys had union Jack tattoos, sang Pro ulster songs yet where inviting me and my friends back for an after party, no issues what so ever. I'd be very suprised if a protestant would be afforded the same courtesy at a conlon fight.
I was at that fight and I agree. Having not said that Frampton hardly knows where the siuth of Ireland is. He was on the late late show one single time and he barely opened his mouth! No interest at all.
Yes i think Conlans ability is far and above the fighters you just named. Leigh Wood did impress last night out though
Hmm, Michael has never impressed me. Each time I've seen him he's left me thinking that there's more hype to him than actual substance. Maybe im been a bit harsh there, probably better saying that I don't think he's as good as they'd like us to believe he is, at this point in his career. I saw him live as well, when he fought Cunningham, who let's be right is a sbw, they dragged up to fw, for Michael to beat up! Cunningham came in at short notice and nothing I saw in that fight had me saying 'wow'
Ok Ok mate, like I said earlier, imo if he's matched right and not thrown in too early, he has all the right teams around him, he can probably go on and pick a strap up.
i remember that appearance on the Late Late alright. He was with McGuigan at the time and you know yourself, Barry is still thought of as an absolute legend here in Ireland so that tosser Tubridy (who doesnt know anything about sport) just directed everything at Barry. As i said, ive no issue with Conlon, but i do think he owes it to the people of Northern Ireland to be more inclusive, whether he even agrees with that. Its for the greater good
This content is protected The way he is being matched you have to think they dont rate him that highly and want to keep milking him?
Hopefully no more IRA music and I still have no idea whether he is any good or not due to the limited opponents.
