Yeah, by the way, he isn't "Manuel" anymore; he legally changed it back again this past April, so don't be deadnaming him. You know what he still is, however? The regular goddamn WBA heavyweight champion of the world, despite having not fought in two years. Are they going to wait until next decade to either order him to fight or strip his ass?? Hell, they did order him to make a defense, against Fres Oquendo (which, as the low hurdle that he needed to clear to retain, is ridiculous in and of itself), back in January (when they lifted his suspension for peeing hot), and he was supposed to have done it within 60 days. He didn't. He's still "regular champ". I ... I don't get it.
Who cares is the real question. The WBA regular is a total joke and has been a circus act at HW since almost the turn of the decade(Povetkin at least made regular defenses) I'd like to see Charr fight the winner of Chisora/Price but thats not likely. I'm not going to dignify the Fres situation with a response.
I've expressed this sentiment before and been told it's been held up for legal purposes. But not fighting Fres Oquendo and then not fighting Trevor Bryan should be enough to strip him once and for all. Hell, take the legal hit as you'll get way more money out of actually sanctioning fights with this belt on the line.
So is he going to fight someone at some point? I'd some young fighter would be dying to lift that "belt" off of him.
The problem is that if he does eventually haul his cookies in the ring, there's an opportunity for some ranked but unworthy HW (like his mandatory Trevor Bryan for instance) to topple him and declare themselves a world champ, and technically, they will be correct.
Charr represents what I hate about division perfectly. A fighter who is at best h2h top 30 and hasn’t fought for 2 years claiming he’s a world champion because he barely beat over 40 Ustinov, who was chucked in after Charr’s drug ban was served and the Ancient Oquendo and primordial Briggs fight fell through.
Yeah I get it. Im just past the point of caring at this point. It's a total joke but it's been a joke for so long that In just going to pretend it isn't there.
It's like...having a malignant tumor in your elbow sucks...but it sucks less than having it metastasize to your bicep/shoulder and having to amputate the whole arm.. I get feeling like "everything is so diluted already, so f it..." - but you have to be rooting for the WBA to at least save a little face by stripping him and preventing further dilution with yet another joke of a paper champ in whoever comes along to beat him.
