The objective is to harm your opponent so bad they are 1. unconscious 2. so badly hurt they can't continue . It's boxing. You are not going to stop the injury or death.

The older I get the more i argree with you. It's a great almost sport. It needs to be cleaned up before more fighters are killed or maimed. And I say that as a longtime fan.

if you don't know how to defend yourself, or if you are afraid of getting brain damage, then stay the hell out of the ring. go play cricket or volleyball

We just had a guy die in the ring. It's a serious matter.

You should be ashamed. The death of that good guy has moved the entire world, the boxing world is broken and you tell brain damages and death are ordinary matters in boxing. Im speechless.

I have a feeling that rules will change at some point and eventually the combat sports might even be illegal. Perhaps not in our lifetime but I can see it happening in the future.

Despite the recent events I am glad I am alive during the times where boxing is still what it is. We may not always have it.

    Hell no.

    Horrible idea.

Might as well change the name of the sport.

Wouldnt watch anymore and also if its headgear like the ams it wouldnt do as much good as people think it would.

You make some great points but I have to disagree with you on this point. Guys that try this are not going to be in no shape to step in the ring under the system im proposing. I highly doubt that guys with a lot of money and titles on the line are going to want to play that game. The only reason they do it now is because they know they have enough time too rehydrate and recover but lets see how they feel about that when they dont. Sure you still will have weight cutters but It will no longer be done by guys that need two rehydrate 15-20+ lbs before fight time. You say it'll be difficult getting guys weights and I agree but you can implement a system like random drug tests but instead youre weighing fighters. I dont want to hear anything about time and money because it absolutely can be done. Even if it has to be done for only certain level of fights.

    Weight passports.
Upon registering for a locense the athletes bodyfat, muscle % and hydration levels will be tested. Based upon those tests they will be given a weightclass they can fight at.

This. Cutting off too much weight and coming in drained is a major problem and not only in boxing, but also in MMA and Wrestling. A fighter shouldn’t be cutting off 10-20 pounds to make a weight class. Oddly enough boxers pickup a lot of bad habits in the amateurs such as cheating to make weight.

If a fighter is dedicated and disciplined with their training and diet year round they should always be within 3-5 lbs of their weight class, but preferably 3 lbs, since cutting off a ton of weight and rehydrating makes fighters more susceptible to cutting, bleeding from the nose, and seizures. Excessive Weight cutting also gradually damages your kidneys.

ok buddy, enough of your emotional knee-jerk reaction. Let me guess, after a school shooting, are you one of those people who screams "we need to ban all guns immediately" ?? take a deep breath, log off, and come back when you can think with a cold, rational head.....

BTW , Gvozdyk tonight took a beating just as bad as Day, and?

Not if their walk around weight is noted beforehand.Everyone should be fighting within a limited number of pounds of their natural weight or else why have weight classes at all?I know Paulie M can be a nob but he highlights how just a few pounds used to be a very telling thing and it still is but it gets swept under the carpet just because the bigger man managed to !make the weight. To highlight this lunacy we have a guy fighting at Light heavyweight who only a few years ago fought Amir Khan but refused to be weighed on the night.

OK, I got it. Youre among those who tell if a boxer dies, he dies. We have different points of view.

Unfortunately death and serious injury are part of this sport, always have been. Every fighter knows and understands the risks every time they enter the ring and inevitably it will end in tragedy on occasion.

Although boxing is a sport it is still a career and doesn't rank as one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, and adding a "safety helmet" removes the essence of what boxing is. I remember seeing some concepts for a gel like headgear that protects the back of the head when a fighter drops, I'd be for that but not full face gear.
