This is Louis´ last hurrah in color: This content is protected Often mentioned as the modern HW, beeing a good 10lb over his usual fighting weight. What if that Louis meets these guys a little before their prime Floyd Patterson 1958 Cassius Clay 1964 Joe Frazier 1968 Larry Holmes 1978 Douglas or Tucker 1987 Evander Holyfield 1989 Chris Byrd 1999 as he did Rocky?
He loses all of them badly, is stopped by all expect Byrd and maybe Tucker, Patterson is far too nice and might possibly carry him. Seeing an old ATG like Louis vs a close to prime versions of Frazier, Ali, Holmes or Holyfield is not what I'd want to see
Ehm you´d recognize that a) these ATGs weren´t prime too (like Rocco) b) Joe Louis is the reference gold standard of the modern 215lb HW Rocky beat c) ATG Rocky Marciano himself gets evaluated H2H-wise for beating that modern HW, in process beating Foremans, Holmes and Lewis @ fantasy matchups? So youre saying these ATGs do better than Rocky?? Rocky rumbled 8 rounds with the man.
None of them do better than Rocky except arguably Holmes, but they all beat him, most of them brutally. Honestly Louis would have a shot against Byrd and Douglas in a 12 rounder
Louis by this time in his career had lost all timing and speed with his right hand which was his bread and butter punch. He still had a good jab and hook albeit a slower version of his arsenal from his prime.
Hell no. Especially Holyfield and Ali, who don't hit nearly as hard as Marciano. In fact id say their wins would be more comparable to the Charles fight. Perhaps Ali gets a late stoppage over 15. Green Frazier probably stops him rounds 11-13. Old Louis was better than Mathis to say the least
In 07/1967 "green" Joe Frazier stopped Chuvalo in 4, as he did Ellis in 1970! Young fresh Quarry in 7. Did you take your RBV meds??
He probably loses by a wide decision. Stoppage loss, that is hard to watch. As above. He has a chance there! Probably a heartbreaking beat down, as happened against Marciano. Decision win for Byrd.
I'd say Holyfield was around that level, he definitely has a better KD/KO résumé. Although that's probably an unpopular opinion. He'd do a serious number on Louis with his counters tho.
It took Holmes 10 rounds to stop Parkinsons Ali in a merciless performance. So therefor they all KO him in 7. 1 round better than that bum Marciano.
I honestly believe he loses to each and every one of these fighters, mostly by KO. He was a shell of a shell of his former greatness. He would not have been fighting if it weren't for Uncle Scam on his back. He didn't want to be there. He wasn't fit and able. He had lost his best attributes.
Looking back its sad Louis had tax issues, and returned to the ring to pay it. The guy did so much for so country. I would say the 38 year old Louis was better than the 38 year old Ali.
I agree,Mendoza. Muhammad was already in the early throes of Parkinsons at 38 while Louis was still pretty healthy as far as I know.
