No. We (and I include myself for picking against him this time) underrated Beterbiev. His Chin and boxing ability appear to have been underrated by some, but the key reasons why I picked against him here was because: A. He had been a bit inactive coming into the biggest fight of his career. B. Gvozdyk is World Class and had the tools needed to be successful. Unfortunately, it seems like not much has changed around here either, despite what Beterbiev just did against the second best Light Heavy in the World... **EDITED** to give CST80 credit for saying we underrated Artur first, as my reply was made immediately after seeing the thread title: I know you don't like Beterbiev at all, but you're still getting credit for this one.
No, I don't believe we did. It's just more that Beterbiev actually lived up to the promise he showed a few years ago. Biggest problem is that Bivol has mad skills and isn't afraid to stink the joint out so that's gonna be a very tough fight. Kovalev was amazing in his day, but he gets knocked out pretty much every other fight now so if Canelo doesn't end him, Beterbiev will.
I hope so because he's boring as sin. Beterbiev throws knockout shots every punch. I'd hate to see Bivol be champ.
im going by a lot of this forum thought Beterbiev had 0 chance. I'm from Canada so my opinion was diffrent I actually was the opposite I thought Gvosdyk had no chance. I never saw beterbiev losing this even though it wasnt a blow out he made Gvosdyk make errors a lot. I loved the sportsman ship of both. pure class
I didn’t overrate or underrate either guy. They both fought their hearts out and took some serious bombs. Kudos to both. I said before the fight I know how dangerous Artur is. But he did have an even better chin than I thought. NOBODY is knocking him out at 175. If Sergey beats Canelo his confidence will skyrocket and in keeping his momentum will have a good shot at avenging those amateur loses with a UD over Artur imo. We’ll see though. The Nail will be back.
I said several times it wouldn't shock me if Beterbiev won, even on the RBR for what it's worth. But I did have a ton of faith that Gvozdyk could pull it off. It ended up playing out like Scenario 2, only Beterbiev didn't get frustrated and bided his time.
about the level i see prograis, taylor, hurd, charlo, etc... world class and skilled, but not a talent that could transcend eras.
I'm canadian as stated massive bute fan but bute had flaws and I think his flaws were similar to gvosdyks. to ask what they are he bounces A LOT. it might just be how he was trained but bute bounced a lot jumped up and down as he moved wasting energy he didnt need to waste. also but had a lot of fear for seek and destroy people, especially if they are named froch. but went on to nearly win a world title after that vs Jack.
No. People were underrating Artur. The Nail is still a serious, serious player at 175 and a quality fighter. As long as AB didnt take too much out of him he should be back with a vengeance.
Usyk is not trained by Lomachenko's father. His trainer now is a Ukrainian guy Yuriy Tkachenko. If Usyk faces even an above average heavyweight with him in his corner, he might regret it later. Anatoly Lomachenko trains only Loma. He puts all his time and efforts into his son. Also, there are serious "logistic" reasons as well—Loma spends about half a year in Ukraine, and Gvozdyk now lives quite comfortably in the US with his family.
