Tony had to let some steam off about Tyson Fury having foamed at the mouth since his WWE PPV fight announcement
Employ Andy Clarke full time and put Macklin with him, move Adam Smith to an sit down interviewer type of role, job done. Will never happen however.
Adam Smith and macklin are terrible! I had to turn them down. I prefer them to Ronald Macintosh though some of the sky guest commentators are brilliant though! Mallinagi I really really like listening to not sky but ward and Bradley are a pretty good commentary team
I usually don't mind macklin unless he's on when a Irish fighter is on but he was pretty bad last night, Smith is always awful and macintosh is the worst of all time.
Shilled commentary is becoming more and more of an issue with up-to-the-second social media criticizing it. What's weird is, I don't remember it ever being as bad as it is now. Although that could well be rose-tinted sunglasses. Macklin used to be a decent, balanced pundit but he's gone full shill now. BT is every bit as bad as Sky btw, and Tony is correct, the most blatant example of biased commentary I've seen was Fury Wilder. Joyce Jennings almost pipped it though -- at one point Rawlings was cutting Barrie Jones off mid-sentence when Jones was giving Jennings a literal word or two or of praise. Just watched Ritson Davies. Thought it was pretty balanced commentary-wise in fairness although there is a clearly a directive to repeat variations of the phrase "this is a really good fight" at least 6 x per round. Again, BT do the same.
Agree with Ward and Bradley, although Bradley has or is turning into a shorter, bald, black version of Atlas with his metaphors
The interviews afterwards are even worse. Especially when David "I'll do or say anything you want for a few quid" Haye is on.
I owe Nick Halling a sincere apology, he was just a bit of a moby, everything was "World Class" and he exaggerated everything but he wasn't as bad as Smith. Andy Clarke is the best commentator on Sky Sports by a long way, when he is on the mic I relax and enjoy the fights. If I disagree with Clarke then it's just a simple case of us seeing something in a different way but Smith just blatantly lies down the mic in some cases, you would have to be blind to believe him. Adam Smith has made friends with these matchroom fighters and believes he is one of the lads and so without any shame or self awareness just goes all out supporting them. What the hell was Smith doing on stage at the KSI Logan Paul car crash of a press conference.. I'm half expecting Smith to make a YouTube diss track next week, calling out Rawlings, because he is obviously "friends" now with the youtubers, the man is a joke. It's so blatant he obviously doesn't care, I don't mind Smith supporting fighters, he is a boxing fan but he shouldn't be commentating then, if he cant separate his personal feelings for fighters and commentating then let somebody else do it. The love Smith obviously felt for Cheeseman Saturday was so sickening I actually had to turn the sound off, I couldn't take it, Now while I will admit Cheeseman did fight a completely different fight from what I expected it was exactly prime Mayweather but Adam Smith lost his mind at points, he lost all sense of reality and was obviously just gazing at Cheeseman through the ropes, little love hearts in his eyes and touching himself under his little table. Cheeseman moved around a bit, that's all, he wasn't face first like he normally is, Fitzy was awful for large parts but still managed to win the last 4 rounds and get a decision. If you didn't watch the pictures and heard Smith on a radio you'd have thought Cheeseman was the new Willie Pep. I'm taking great pleasure in watching Matchroom fighters (basically Sky fighters) getting beat, I shouldn't be that bitter or twisted but it's people like Smith and that moron Kugan that makes me grin from ear to ear when I see the "boys" get beaten up or embarrassed. Also notice I didn't mentioned "Katie" while talking about Smith and his weird and sometimes pervy sounding commentary, well i have now, when she got beat last time (we all know she lost really) I thought at one point Adam was going to cry, if I was "Katie" I'd take a preemptive restraining order against Smith.
i was actually thinking on Sat night i am starting to hate everything about the Sky Sports production. Adam Smith, he doesn't commentate on the under card fights and arrives for the main event and supporting main event like he's above the smaller fights, he grates on me, the way he looks at fighters who use 'colourful' language with disdain is a joke, the majority of fighters are from the streets, wtf does he expect? point in case when Dillian Whyte called Lucas Brown chlamydia lol . In fact what are Adam smiths qualifications to commentate on fights? was he a commentator before he became head of boxing at Sky or did he give himself the commentating job as he is the head of boxing at sky? I don't know what others take on Macklin is but to me he's a guy who loves the sound of his own voice, i personally have no idea why he is Sky Sports co-commentator of choice, his boxing record was just ok, i don't find him particularly insightful or likable, check out his podcast, particularly the one with Frankie Gavin, he spoke more than the actual guest of the podcast. That David Diamante (the ring announcer) is cringe full stop, don't get him at all, the way he repeats the boxers surname as a 'throwback' to the old ring announcers is not only stupid but also unnecessary, the old ring announcers only did that because they didn't have the microphones and wanted to ensure everyone heard in the audience, its like he's trying to make it 'his thing'. Johnny Nelson is Johnny Nelson, i stopped listening to that guy a long time ago, he's an advocate for everything Sky/matchroom and his predictions usually border on ridiculous, most things he says can be taken with a pinch of salt or simply ignored, he did get the Fitzgerald scorecard right but i disagreed with those scorecards so what do i know lol
