Being able to beat Holyfield I think James Toney would have been a handful for a post jail Mike Tyson to handle. How would you see this fight play out?

It was a bout I wanted to see. Not the Julius Francis type matchmaking.

I think James has a real good chance for the upset here. First off, there is no way in the world Tyson even bothers to get in half assed shape for a former middle. And this would be the opposite for Toney---he'd be in top shape and prepared.

As for the fight, I like or would have liked if it had happened, Toney by dq. Tyson will resort to his dirty tactics when he misses his punches with this guy and gets peppered with counters.Frustrated to no end and unable to do anything. So once Tyson gets fatigued and sloppy, like sometime between the 6th and 9th round, the foulfest starts and the ref eventually disqualifies him--like 2 rounds too late. Not a good bout for Team Tyson and certainly not a bout to showcase his skills.

Toney out lasts a tired, frustrated Tyson, taking him in to the second half of the fight. Toney hangs tough, takes the best of Tyson and by the 7 th is counter punching at him and closing his eye. In the 8 th, Tyson is visibly finished and barely throwing, the rare punches are easily blocked or taken on Toney s skull that have no affect. James takes charge and batters his opponent in to the ropes, where the fight is stopped.

Can you just imagine how tough it would be to get Mike Tyson up at 5am to go jog 5 miles? Like 6 weeks away from the bout to get the weight off? For a former middleweight? There is simply not a 10% chance Tyson gets himself in anything but poor condition for a fighter carrying a middleweight punch. He'd be doing everything except training. Good luck getting him to go to bed at 8 pm for that training period---for a James Toney. Sure. And Team Tyson would be dismissing the Toney trashtalk and everyone in that Tyson entourage would be underestimating Toney a ton.

Well I really wanted to see this fight....
I think Tyson's post prison career falls into two categories though: pre and post Holyfield.

Even the Tyson that fought Holyfield in 1996 was still very formidable. He still had plenty of confidence, was still in fantastic shape, was fighting regularly, and i think he was still better than 95% of the HWs out there. I think Tyson 96 would still have enough to wear down Toney, although it would still be a great fight.

After the Holy rematch in 97 is when Tyson really went down the tubes. He was getting suspended for this or going to jail for that and it resulted in him fighting just once a year from then on or even longer. He never had that ripped physique anymore either, and as early on as the Botha fight he looked sloppy in the ring.

That post 1997 Tyson I think James Toney should be able to destroy. It's just a question of does he stop him or UD him.

The one thing Toney would have working against him though was that at CW and HW, he was most effective when he would lay on the ropes and let guys come to him and slip and counter their punches. I always called it the perfected rope a dope style.

Tyson is definitely a guy who can exploit you on the ropes though.

    But I still pick Toney

If it's the sloppy Tyson that fought Botha then Toney could do it ! James wouldn't be worried by all that Tyson bull he was as bad arse as mike. the trash talk leading up to the fight would be awesome press conference threats pushing all that ! The longer the fight go's the more change Toney has .good scrap

James"Butterbean" Toney would never ever get near a Tyson in the 90's......ever.......yeah he "might" convince himself to face the shot beyond shot version who fought the Danish Cream Puff.

A shot Tyson basically finished off Saverese/Golata/Botha with O N E shot...............good luck flat footed with zero lateral movement while being a little guy sitting on the ropes trying to counter Tyson when you are a absolute pillow fisted ex Middle....even against a shot Tyson.

A Superheavy in Lewis was afraid to engage the Ghost of Tyson ,kept it long and leaned or tied up up close right away.......but Toney will be sitting in the pocket trading......who ever believes that also believes in Big Foot.

Up to Holyfield 2 Tyson stops ANY version of Toney rather quick..........after that Toney might survive a little until he gets put down and out........Toney has never ever faced that kind of punching power with speed, and yes, Tyson still had significant speed of hand even when shot.

Toney went life and death with zero skill caveman Peter whose claim to fame was going the distance with glass chinned WK......lol, he was put on his azz by a freaking telegraphed slow as molasses jab......

One more time, nobody beats prime or semi shot Tyson going toe to toe in a fire fight............this aint no Oldiefield who never could crack a egg and whose best punch was his head when his roid cycle malfunctioned.....

Post 1997 I'd favour Toney, Pre I'd favour Tyson but I'd be fascinated to see what Toney could do. Pre prison & Tyson wins early.
