We have the newbie fans of boxing who still think weight jumping is the same as looking for challenges.
You're probably right.A cricketer got struck by a quick ball behind the ear and it was enough to kill him and yet bowlers still have to bowl bouncers as it's part of the game. Guess what I'm saying is that it a fighter gets hit there it's highly dangerous no matter their respective weights.I think it's more about being seen to doing the right thing more than anything?
Have you seen the system they use at ONE Championship? They might well be leading the way here in regards to a solution to this problem. https://www.mmamania.com/2017/5/25/15693052/one-championship-abolished-weight-cutting-in-mma
I think it's terrific they doing this Boxing is so disorganized though, if they can implement something like this it would be awesome.
https://www.ringtv.com/124365-weigh-ins-day-before-vs-same-day/ Some more points to consider. Old article but explains all sides of the argument pretty well.
Wow. That's a pretty unique approach. I know boxing is inherently dangerous but....the size mismatches we sometimes see today and the use of PEDs by some boxers have made the situation worse. Maybe the answer is something like hydration testing in conjunction with PEDs testing. You are right boxing is fractured and kind of corrupt but if it cannot police itself at some point an outside party will come in and force change or shut it down. On the topic of PEDs and size mismatches I find myself agreeing with Paulie M.
No I think you posted it as I was typing the same thing up lol.I would say great minds think alike but in hindsight Canelo v Khan is an obvious example lol.
Ok then , tommy hearns , duran Leonard and pac werent looking for challenges.... neither is usyk I guess according to your logic
That's a good article. Why bother with weigh ins and weight classes if we don't know what weight they are on the night? Ten pounds should be ample and as the article points out if it's too much then move up a division, goodness knows there's enough of them lol.
Exactly...I think if they put in rough weight guidelines with same day weigh in it would make things more even. For example a if its a middleweight fight then a fighter can come in 160 +- 3lb...so they know they are roughly on weight on fight night and not obscessing about making the round number. Plus test their hydration level to the best they can. Otherwise it's Canelo weighing in 160 to come back at 179 the next day vs. someone like Khan who gains 4lb overnight. It only looks even when it doesn't really matter.
An MMA promotion, One Champioship, tests hydration levels through urine the whole week of the fight. If any of your urine tests show a certain amount of dehydration, your fight is immediately cancelled. So it basically ensures your around the same weight all week leading up to Friday weigh ins. There is virtually no weight cutting in that promotion. Seems like a great idea.
Biggest obstacle will be money. There are so many organization and so many boxers that are barely making it. Who pays for the lab work and the monitoring?
American nostalgics at their best again... 1. fighter will do the risk anyway. Nobody is willing to lose a weight advantage. Back in the day nobody could just take T3 hormones to turbo the metabolism. Thats standart nowadays. It could be that it will be even more dangerous 2. the weight cut is made out to be a bigger danger in the sport then it actually is. The main reason is that athlets just punch way harder then 20-30 years ago. Nowadays i see hardly any fights that dont end in a ko, tko or where at least 1 kd happens. Boxers have never been bigger killing machines then now. Everything gets better, technique, nutrition peds anything but the brains ability to take a punch. Anybody some idiot is going to claim that i know **** about boxing and that marciano would ko wilder.
