Just saw this thread on a MMA (boxing sub section fourm), thought I'd bring that topic up here. Guys who's KO streak/% and reputation is misleading and guy's who has lower ko % or does not get enough respect as a power puncher but has solid power. Will use a couple of boxers as example (apologies for using crappy examples) Underrated Punchers: Crawford, Porter, Fury, Loma Overrated Punchers: Danny Garcia, Chris Eubank, Jermall Charlo
Respectfully disagree on Eubank (assuming we are talking about senior?) The man could punch like a savage, but after Watson he seemed to hold back a lot more Although, since every other fighter listed is current... Yeah, Eubank jr isn't the puncher some (albeit few) make him out to be Also disagree with Garcia, I think his punching power is fine , it's the delivery that stands out more to me, I kinda get the feeling he fell in love with his power which was considerably more noticeable at 140 and his delivery for his shots seems to have declined Couldn't agree more with the others though, especially porter! Again , his delivery let's him down at times as I feel he tends to smother his own work quite a lot by being just that little bit too close in Punch for punch though he is one of the hardest hitters at 147 Also, I'd shout out Marcos Maidana on being underrated, his record obviously backs up the fact that the guy could punch like a mule but I do feel like some people in these kinda forums forget at times that he was more than just a brawler, he could box well, punch like hell, impossible to stop too Luis Ortiz strikes me as an overrated power puncher although again it could just be his delivery due to slowing down More one for the fellow Brits, but I can't help feeling David Price's power is overrated too, people go on about how he only has to land one to end the fight (usually used as justification for why he's being rolled out as a sacrificial lamb AGAIN) but it never comes
For Today Underrated, Whyte, Parker and Jacobs Overrated, Wilder, GGG, Pacquiao and Beterbeiv In history Underrated, Holyfield, Wilde, Baer and Tiger Overrated, Tyson, Louis, Ketchel, Chavez and Shavers
Donaire has under rated power. He doesn't have the highest KO% but if he connects with that left hook, chances are it's goodnight
I know, but I've seen people say that his power was scary and made George Foreman comparisons. Not on here like, more in real life, YouTube/Insta comments ect
Honestly Floyd's power is seriously underrated....i dont know where the idea that he has no power comes from. He has a pretty low punch out put and only throes one at a time, yet he stops guys dead in they tracks and has thinking rather than throwing. This was most evident against both ODH and Sugar Shane, shane damn near had a mental melt down in the ring Same thing could be said for B-Hop......not much of a flashy puncher, but he had a way of taking fighters souls throughout the course of 12 rounds.....so much so that very few were ever the same after fighting him Overrated power? I'll have to go with Arturo Gatti....he did indeed have power at Light weight, but the good fighters were easily able to overcome it, at the higher weights any halfway decent fighter had no problems with him, although his KO over Jesse James Leiga was ok i suppose.....I still remember that debacle against Alfonso Gomez, when Gatti was getting pummeled ring post to ring post, Max Kellermen was telling us 'any second now, be ready, Gatti can end a fight with just one punch!'
Although I'd definitely call Gatti heavy handed , he could bring the thunder, but only really a knockout puncher at lightweight
He did have good KOs at lightweight, but I think Harris claim to fame will always be his ability to soak up pinishment, although that eventually ran out on him and he just became a punching bag
