Funny overhyped fighters in retrospect.

His vocal fan base was huge... and rabid.

 

Tann was awful. even fighting hand picked scrubs.

 

The push behind "Baby" Joe Mesi by HBO was unbelievable.

 

True, but he never really lost his hype status in the ring. He's like some sort of a lineal top prospect/contender, like Ibeabuchi or Pirog.

True, after the Jirov fight, he just kinda dissipated into oblivion. The fact that he remained undefeated does lend to a lot of "what if's". Personally, what Monte Barrett did and him barely surviving Jirov pretty much showed all I needed to see regarding his ceiling. Even though he came back and had a few fights, I think the polish was off.

 

He was compared to Riddick Bowe.

 

Audley and Price were penciled in to be ATG’s.

My favorite of the last 10-15 years:

Kelly Pavlik...I actually enjoyed Pavlik, that boy liked to fight, was just never as good as advertised and could not handle adversity well

Lucian Bute...was so hyped he didn't even have to fight in the Super Six, a fantastic proving ground that he completely bypassed

Mikkel Kessler....he wasn't a bad fighter, but nowhere near deserving of the accolades heaped upon him by elitist media...made his bones knocking over obscure cans in Denmark and Finland.. I was absolutely dumfounded he was so heavily favored to beat Andre Ward

Ricky Hatton...could not stand this guy! Total media creation, and product of good matchmaking that fouled his way to a championship and who's biggest win was against a 45 year old Jose Castillo who was suffering PTSD from his wars with Corralles....got absolutely posterized by Mayweather and by Pacquiao

Michael Katsidas......another guy I don't want to bag on too hard cause he always came to fight, but his skills never matched the love he got off the media.....always seemed to get KOd by guys twice his age

Nathan Claverlay....this guy couldnt even fill Eric Lucas's shoes but he was passed off as the second coming of Bob foster before Kovalev burst his bubble

He was a bit overrated too, but much better than the fighters i mentioned above, and Hatton fouled the crap out of him in that fight

I want to know what Vitali said to Solis at the end of that fight, Vitali walked right up to Solis and you can tell he’s furious that the fight got stopped.
