Is Henry Armstrong the most underrated P4P level fighter ever?

I'm also a bit curios where you get your lists from. But obviously at least one on this board doesn't have him top 10. The question is, which 10+ are above him?

 

I think Willie Pep is the most under rated, overlooked. He was the best pure boxer that ever lived.

I think Benny Leonard deserves a mention. He was the Sugar Ray of his time. He was that big, that good.

 

It's his era. At some point this era won't be identified as having greats. 30+ years from today, some old dude will get his arse handed to him claiming Manny Pacqiao or Floyd Mayweather beats the crop in 2060. All of them!

I'd wager that most, not some but most who post in the regular boxing forum and not the Classic wouldn't place him in their list. I don't agree, but I understand.

 

Amen on both points! I have Pep at no. 3 all time and Benny Leonard at no. 7. They are both top 10 in my view without a doubt.

 

I remember @JohnThomas1 posting about this and saying that with Armstrong, you start with top 5 and then work your way up from there.

I have him at no. 2 in my list, behind only SRR.

I remember many years ago a good poster throwing up a thread pushing that Armstrong could possibly be rated #1, or something similar. He was being theoretical and throwing it out there for debate whilst pushing Armstrongs case, from memory. He's a big big player.

 

In my book Armstrong is only after SRR, Ali, and Duran as far as pfp ATGs. Just ahead of Leonard.

 

a strong argument can be made for 1, certainly a much stronger argument than 10+

 

while I personally strongly disagree with 2 3 & 5...I really hope you are talking about Benny the greatest Leonard
