If two fighters can get away with putting on a good quality card whilst effectively eliminating the greedy middleman (ie, promoter) then all the more power to them The fighters should always be the ones reaping the maximal financial rewards for their efforts, after all they are then one doing the hours of training, sweating, bleeding and hurting to make a living, not some shady character watching from the front row Sage
Good post and I agree.. Though the actual fight might not make as much money as it would with all the promoters, the fighters will be making more..
Makes all the sense in the world ...Good for both of them ..Its better that the fighters take control .Funny but I also read that Golden boy wanted be involed as well ..No reason for them to be aprt of this since neither Roy or Joe are under contract with GBP..
More boxers should do this. Many a time it's the promoters that are the reason why fights aren't being made. Unfortunately not all are in position to do so. Business men rule sports, which eventually will be the end of sports as we know them.
The sad thing is that some fighters need that promoter ..Think about all of the careers King and Arum launched ..I think once these fighters get enough sense they break away from them ..Its sad but promoters to an extent are a neccessary evil But good for Jones and Calzaghe ..Maybe they are paving the way ..Oh and by the way the proposed date is Sept 20th at the MGM GRAND ..It will be at Lt heavy from what I am reading.
