Alot of people think that Max Baer beat Carnera but Everytime I watch the film I'm just not seeing it. I score it for Primo Everytime I watch it.
Quite an exaggeration to say he was one of the worst heavyweight champs in history, since Carnera beat some very good fighters, but like any champion had styles he struggled with, but wasn’t afraid to fight any style. The heavyweight is also a lot less competitive nowdays, since there is a shortage of lighter clever fighters due to the creation of the cruiserweight division. Plenty of heavyweight champs that came after Carnera shamelessly ducked difficult style matchups.
He would have been destroyed in any title fight he might have been given today, AJ, Ruiz and Wilder hit far harder than Primo did, he wouldn`t even get a title shot today, Price would have knocked him out early, it would also have been interesting to see the impact Price would have had in Primo`s day given his size and power, even though his chin would have been expose if he ever got near Louis.
Take a look at Carnera's title defences. He fought Uzcudun in 33 . Uzcudun hadn't been ranked for 5 years! Carnera was a manufactured fighter if he got you in a corner he could club you into submission ,but he was a mechanical fighter who pushed his, jab lacked power, and was wide open to right hands.
You did this one already..... https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...e-worst-heavyweight-champ-of-all-time.616406/
He is probably more lower end of the middle of the pack, than one of the worst lineal heavyweight champions! That is just going on the raw numbers.
The only good style matchup for Carnera were opponents that were told to take a dive. He was a Mob creation. Exploited and used
