So why was Futch taking all the credit for guiding and decision making Frazier?

Max Baer hit Primo full force flush as did Louis and neither knocked Primo out with one shot. When you make these sort of statements so definitively you sound young.

I think primo beats chisora just like Tyson Fury did or any of those other guys that already beat chisora when chisora was in his prime.

We are discussing Carnera not Conn and Louis.
Carnera was not a big puncher and he is in no list of big punchers that I have ever read in the last 50 years.

Carnera wasn`t a puncher he had a bad punching technique and couldn`t punch his weight.

Like a lot of giants Carnera adapted his punching in order to hit shorter faster men. His technique was not unlike a lot of modern big men such as Vitali and Tyson Fury. There is a lot of evidence he had very good power. Primo knocked an undisputed champion spark out and had a 69% KO record. That cannot be a light puncher.

It wasn’t that his punching technique was bad, but that his opponents that he was usually fighting were hard to land clean on due to being light and very experienced. When Carnera fought guys closer to his size that were easy to land on he didn’t have any problem knocking them out.

He also managed to catch Jack Gross, who was a very good and clever fighter. If you ever visit Los Angeles, since I’m assuming you’re from the U.K. stop by the Skirball, since they have a ton of footage on Jewish boxers from the 30’s and 40’s and even footage from the Carnera-Gross fight.

Also, against the wrong style any puncher can be made to look clumsy and ineffective. David Tua was an excellent puncher against certain styles, but against guys with effective movement and were good at leaning away from shots his power could easily be neutralized. Tua would be lucky to ever land clean on a guy like Tommy Loughran and would most likely drop a decision, but that doesn’t mean Tua can’t punch.

Every time Tua is about to land with power Wainwright either leans away from the shot or bends a little and let his arm and shoulder take the shot, which effectively neutralized Tua’s killer left hook.

My trainer, who was a middleweight often used the same strategy when he sparred Ron Lyle, Quarry, Foreman, etc.., who were all good punchers. Wainwright also never stood square in front of Tua, which also made it very hard for Tua to land clean.

Bryd’s effective mobility and glove control made it very difficult for Tua to land clean and Byrd like Wainwright rarely stood square in front of Tua, so he was able to neutralize Tua’s power.

Lennox’s power also wasn’t as effective against guys like Holyfield and Mavrovic, since they were hard to land clean on.

Most of his punches here are just pushed punches with no snap, what happened in the below vid against the much smaller guy?! He didn`t land anything on him, it was pretty low level punching overall, very ham fisted and messy.

Carnera improved his technique significantly after he started fighting in the USA.

Abe Attell was brought in to train him, and he started controlling range a lot better, against smaller fighters.

When he fought somebody bigger than himself, he seems to have taken it straight to the inside game, an turned it into a brawl.
