Is Tyson Fury the first non titlist to pretend he has a title?

Fury isn't a titlist, at no point did Wlad hold the lineal title so how the hell did Fury become a lineal champion? **** is ridiculous

The whole 'lineal' champ theory is crackers anyway. It's one thing someone like Ali using it to claim 'I never lost it in the ring, I am the rightful champion' type of thing. Nowadays it is just used by a load of internet fanboys to try and claim brownie points for their fighter.

You can only really claim to be lineal in these days of fragmented titles if you unify all of the serious ones (WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO). Due to the politics involved, that gives about 3 fighters I can think of (Hopkins, Crawford, Usyk) plus others like Hamed and Calzaghe who beat the champs of all four bodies but never held all at the same time due to politics. But you get endless fanboys thinking that the Ring title means a fighter is lineal or claiming that a fighter ranked #1 by most people was 'considered' lineal. You can't be considered 'lineal', you are or you aren't and you can only be 'are' by expunging all competing claims.

Then you get situations like the Canelo farce where a load of fanboys were claiming him as 'lineal' champion in a weight class he had never fought at off the back of a couple of catchweight bouts!

The whole concept is a joke nowadays.

 

As regards Fury, he may well have a legitimate claim to be the best fighter in the division. But champion he is not and frankly I would be embarrassed to be being announced as a word champion against most of his last few opponents...

 

I bought a ticket to a fight once. The WBA put a belt under every seat. We're all champions now. Embrace the future.

 

So for those who still believe in such a thing, who exactly does hold the lineal title?

Normally it's the WBC pretending people have titles, not the other way around.

 

Pity it wasn't the WBC. They could have made you their lineal, franchise, super champion ticket-purchaser, in emeritus...

 

Titles are garbage in boxing anyway so it doesn’t matter.
