Simple Question: how many of the first 10 did Regis win?

First time I watched it, it was with Eastern European commentary, presumably Russian. Second time was with very biased pro Taylor commentary with Barker. You’re right though that geography can influence (sometimes hugely) the outcome of a fight.

I gave three of the first ten to Regis (I gave Taylor the first). But it was close and a one round win for either or a draw would all have been reasonable verdicts, a draw probably fairest given their unbeaten records were at stake.

    Agreed.

I was very impressed with Prograis’s footwork, angles, shot selection, the whole lot. He’s brilliant to watch. However, Taylor figured him out and out-willed him.

On a separate note, I’m really happy for Taylor and his team. I was listening to the 5live pod and to hear that he lost his father in law whilst in camp and obviously McGuigan tragically losing his sister. Just shows what these lads put themselves through.

I had it a draw but would be happy with a rd either way.
Tbf when you are Sat ringside fights can look completely different to what u see at home.
A couple of weeks ago I was at a local show and one of the fighters was hit by a righthand- left hook, it completely shook him to his boots, altho at the time i did comment that the said fighter did manage the situation well by keeping a poker face and not shying away. A couple of days later I watched the fight on yt.
The same combo was unrecognizable, it looked like a pitter patter shot and it in no way conveyed the trouble the lad was in.

I think scoring it for Regis would be a push. He's a quality fighter but hard to score rounds 6 through 10 to him.

I've watched the fight twice now and keep getting 115-113 or 115-114 with a 10-10, so Taylor by 1 round or a draw are both fine.

Obviously the wide card was a joke. Even the scene had Taylor winning the 11th which I thought was clearly a RP round

Do you think RP fought the right fight? He's obviously talented and could fight that way but did it not negate some of the obvious advantages he holds over JT?

CompuBox stats above for the fight.

I gave RP rounds: 1-4, 8, 11, 12 so 7 rounds. Got told I was a troll on the RBR forum.

Can see how people give Taylor 3-7 and 9 & 10. Which would be 7-5 for him. Most peoples scores reflect the power punch stats and rounds 3 and 4 were pretty much same number landed.

For me I score the jab also, so that's why I scored the way I did.

Not sure how people gave Taylor the first round, was a clear Prograis round.

I think he started off fighting the right fight, his talent shone through in those first four rounds, imo Taylor was trying to box with him. I’m not suggesting Taylor was out of his depth but it was clear that Prograis just shaded him on boxing skill on the outside. Taylor adapted and used his own physical advantages to force Prograis into an inside battle and accepted that he was going to get hit but backed himself to hit harder than Prograis. The right hook to the body in the 5th slowed Prograis right down and it’s no coincidence that he lost the next 6 rounds. I think that shot would have finished most fighters. Had he not landed that, I think Prograis would have won the fight.

I'd have to score it again, it was close. I remember seeing some really nice inside work from Josh, he was landing some really nice short hooks I was worried the judges might not notice them.

I scored it exactly the same but I gave Prograis the 8th.

an old boxing trick. They give you 1 bad card, to take all the attention, then they sneak one through with a terrible round scored that swings it whatever way you want.

Personally I had it a draw but I can see why people thought Taylor won. You have to be very generous to give Josh more than 1 of the first 4 and he clearly lost the last 2. I personally scored it 4-0 then went to 6-4 before evening it up in the last 2.

I do think Taylor would win a rematch as he wouldn't spend as long figuring Prograis out.
    Just to add...
There's a bit more to it than that though...the tie-breaker judge and in reserve hadit 8-4 to Josh in case the other guy didn't do his job. There was no way Regis was going to win on points, or even get a draw. They were leaving nothing to chance!

He was too nice in the build-up tbh. Great guy, great attitude. but should have been a bit more spiteful. Plenty of time of nice stuff afterwards.

Didn't score live, felt it could have gone a point either way or a draw. I felt the commentary was biased towards Taylor but at the same time, a lot on social media were giving Prograis way too much credit early on. Several of the early rounds were still very close. Every single time we get a close fight between two elite level fighters, people cry robbery & I picked Prograis.

Just to add, one thing I didn't like was Taylor constantly punching after the bell.

I think he'd be better off developing a basic understanding of the scoring criteria used in boxing.

It does baffle me when people who watch boxing on a regular basis think fights are scored purely on who lands the most punches in a particular round.
