LOL no he won't, because number one he should have at the very least two other losses on his resume and number two Kovalev is shot to **** and Canelo knows that full well.
So disappointing. Massive asterisk against an inevitable win vs a weight drained Kov who's body will be even weaker
If you go purely on his official record then of course he’ll likely be regarded as number 1. But if you apply an ounce of subjective reasoning then you could easily argue against Canelo being number 1. I mean, there are fighters that move up beyond their natural weight, and campaign there to dominate that division without any special treatment. Canelo cherry picked at 168, and I believe there was a hydration clause. He’s doing the same now. Will it be an impressive win? Absolutely. But let’s not pretend that it’s as impressive as dominating a division beyond your natural weight. That’s without taking into account his controversial decisions. Great fighter though.
He has fought quite a gauntlet of opposition compared to any fighter of his era. Whole lot of victories vs. opponents ranked in the top 1-3 in division. Unmatched by his peers in that criteria.
lost to GGG twice... at best u could give him 1 draw from the 2 fights and that's a big AT BEST.. should of lost vs lara .. trout was close.. no other fighter gets the benefit of doubt like he has...not #1 sorry.
No. Too many "buts" in his "wins": 1. Bought judges. 2. Catchweights 3. Rehydration clause 4. Clenbuterol 5. Waiting for fighters getting old.
