so it looks like it was going the same way as all the others . No way was he winning that fight but he knocked him out so it doesn’t matter .
I had money on Kova and had him ahead, but I accept that these kinds of fights might look different from ringside. Kova was busy, but it was hard to judge accurately on the screen how much actually landed reasonably clean. The judges have of course a better viewpoint, so I think it's reasonable to give them the benefit of a doubt. Especially when they all had pretty similar scores.
Kovalev was giving him a boxing lesson. I agree, the KO saved us from yet another farce of a decision.
I had it even going into the 10th so given such a hard to judge fight I can't see any real issue with this one
This is the reason why canelo will never be a great in a lot of people’s eyes . He is clearly a great fighter but it’s all the **** that comes with him . People say triple g is crap but a 35-37 year old went toe - toe with a younger in his peak supposedly elite fighter. Can you imagine if he fought him when he should have. Then we have all judging decisions and Vegas trips . Then we have drugs cheating and low sixth month ban . This is the reason he will never be up there with the greatest. And also he should make sure that he comes out first as respect to the world champion
I didn't like that Kovalev had so much respect for Canelo... that height advantage was insane... looked like a kid was boxing with his dad. Sergey was tapping him with punches, and anytime he landed, he had this look like, "wow I cant believe I landed those shots"... Also, it looks like Kovalev skipped out on his cardio and running sessions in training.. he thought that he needed rest from his past fight with Yarde probably.
I had Kovalev up but in the end, when you're heavily knocked on your arse and can't continue, it doesn't matter. For the record I wanted Kov to win. Canelo is a class boxer but I just don't ike him. I'm sure he's really hurt by that
Kova just had nothing on those punches because he took this fight for a giant payday. 37? Fought like 9 weeks ago right? People calling it a dive are just crazy. Kova has looked faded for a while. Dude took the giant payday and hes happy. He knew he had nothing in camp.
I had Kova up. I can't believe one judge gave Canelo the 1st round. He didn't do a single thing to deserve that round... To be honest the whole thing felt off. The way the commentators were speaking, even the video before the fight that said Canelo will be the first to hold titles in 3 weight division... Kovalev was completely "ktfo" by a punch combination he had no problem blocking all night, but 2 minutes later was all smiles on his feet ? I had a bitter taste in my mouth after the fight. And I kept thinking about how DAZN had options on Kovalev if he lost....
I had Kovalev up but he never gets fair shake from judges. He boxes well from outside, nullifies opponent on inside and yet always trails. Canelo and Ward only have to land one clean punch a round sometimes to win the round on him. Laughable
Canelo was winning. He landed all of the clean and effective punches whereas Kovalev was scared to sit on a punch. Canelo landed about twice as many power punches.
In the first round Kovalev missed a bunch of soft jabs and did little else. Alvarez landed two clean punches, one earlier and one near the end, but did absolutely nothing for the rest of the round. It could be scored either way.
