In terms of entertainment viewing do you feel like you are getting your moneys worth when you watch Canelo fight? And do you find Canelo's style to be boring or exciting? He falls in between for me. When matched with the right opponent he's nice to watch. Although in all honesty I do think his last fight with Kovalev was pretty dull, other than the KO.
I enjoy his style. He is very skilled. Seems to have trouble with movers, as he is a counter puncher who prefers the other to lead, and slightly slow footed. Though he seems to have rectified this quite a bit with intelligent pressure.
Yep, Kovalev vs Canelo looked better on paper than what actually happened in the ring. The only thing it had going for it was not knowing what the scorecards would be but then he got KTFO. Looking back it was pretty dull. One guy shoe shining and the other wading forward with his gloves up round after round. Yippee. Having said that I blame Kovalev more so than Canelo and don’t really care if I watch him fight again after that performance.
He's a very skilled fighter but he's mostly pretty dull in the ring with occasional moments of excitement. But personality-wise he's super duper dull. I've seen mannequins with more interesting personalities than him.
I would say more he is in exciting fights than I would he has an exciting style. I think his style was a bit more exciting at 154 because he seemed to engage more. But all in all, yes I find him exciting and i would much rather watch a Canelo fight than most of the other boxers who are rated high on the p4p list.
I like Canelo the boxer, but it always depends on his opponents. And yes, the fight against Kovalev was a rather dull affair, and I don't remember watching a boring fight with Kovalev before...
Very entertaining style to watch. A way he moves his upper body is pure art. He also hits pretty hard which is always good thing.
With Canelo I feel like you never know when he'll suddenly change a fight. Unpredictable, kind of. He can look average or coasting within himself and then ☆CRACK☆...he catches them. Not always, no. But, as there are few absolutes in sport, it's never going to be a guarantee.
Canelo is an exciting fighter with top-notch skills. That's what makes the rest of the garbage surrounding him all the more sad.
I think the OP nails it. GGG2 I thought he was fantastic at times. His ability to ride a shot and then counter with accurate combinations was a joy to behold at times (still think he didnt do enough of it and he should have lost) but then early in his career he couldn't stop Euro Level guys like Matt Hatton in fairly dull fights. He' scored some high light real KOs but I wouldnt call him a huge puncher. Great fighter at times, technically brilliant - but my gods there some questions marks about how his fights are made and run
Canelo does have nice skills, good counterpuncher and defense but he seems so content with being overly defensive and only throwing a few hard punches even when he's the one coming forward. I think the big issue I have with him is his tendency to be too inclined to shell up and occasionally explode with a few good eye-catching shots, which is basically helping him steal rounds to persuade judges to give him that round no matter how close it is. He somewhat reminds me of James Toney, who was also a great defensive counter puncher with slow footwork, except Toney threw more punches.
His fights are mediocre. Personality wise he seems dull, but I also think this is on purpose to preserve his image.
