It’s a geniune question. He is a proven steroid user and has had a very convinient 6 months suspension just when he had his knee injury so he wouldnt have been able to fight in that time anyway. This maybe is not so much down to him but mostly promotion, in at least 3 of his fights the judges were clearly corrupt, especially in the first Golovkin fight. He always looks for unfair advantsges over his opponents, including rehydration clauses whenever he can. He was caught using illegal handwraps in the GGG fight, in my opinion he lost both Golovkin fights, he got a robbery win over Lara. I don’t see how people can support him, he is clearly an extremely talented boxer with some of the best upper body movement in boxing history for 7 rounds.
Once people become attached to a fighter, or any public figure, be it actor or musician or sports person, they will overlook mistakes and bad behaviour in much the same way they would with a family member or close friend. They are invested and so they will forgive that person, and give them another chance, and maybe another after that. Just like a family member or friend, the fighter will have to do something extraordinarily stupid or bad, something unforgivable, before they will stop supporting them. So, yes, they'll cover for them and defend them and see the good instead of the bad. This is why some will defend (in this example) Canelo regardless of what others say.
Because people live vicariously through athletes and have no accomplishments of their own, and project themselves onto them. Case in point: rabid Canelo fanboys on this forum.
Despite all his controversies he's still a quality operator and steroids or not, he's beating up much bigger guys. It's just a shame that he has all this stuff going on as if he was to 'fight fair', not have judges paid off and took his losses he'd be adored by almost everyone.
Whats not to like? He's such a lovely guy, he's always got a smile on his face, he's definitely not a cheat, he only fights the best in their prime, he would hate to get a gift from the judges, he dyes his hair ginger to give gingers a role model.
Who are these "bigger guys"? Aside from Kovalev, who was stopped from getting too big after weighing in anyway, who are you referring to? If anything, it's usually Canelo who goes in and bullies naturally smaller guys. I mean, wasn't he (at the very least) equally as big as Jacobs come fight night? Wasn't he as big (or bigger) than GGG in both fights? He was definitely bigger than Amir Khan, right? I ask because you said "steroids or not (who says that anyway?) he's beating up much bigger guys". That implies he consistently faces "bigger guys" and that despite him being on steroids, to you, he's still a "quality operator". Since when did we have such low standards? When did we just give cheats a pass? I'm not going at you personally, but I think there's something amiss here. I hate cheats and weight bullies etc...because they cheapen the sport; they drag what can a noble profession into the gutter. Yes, of course, boxing has always had corruption...but good people have always fought against it. The sport is the most important thing. More than any one man, or accomplishment.
Those people look at their tiny peepee and remember that picture of Canelo before the GGG weigh in with a sock in his jocks. They think that being a Canelo fan will make them more manly and better looking.
Serious answer: Canelo has top level skills and is good to watch, all his other BS aside. I can understand why people would be fans. I also think that maybe a lot of fans may be from the "home town" so to speak, and feel that his accomplishments rubs off on them.
for me, cause the dude has balls. i tried hating him, couldnt do it, same with holyfield. i can overlook a lot of defects if the guy has heart.
Lara ran his ass off vs Canelo and lost himself that fight and GGG got beatdown in fight II, Canelo is the best fighter in boxing at the moment and nobody is doing it better stop the hating
That's funny how Canelo stopped stuffing socks in his underwear. Probably, accepted the fact that he is small down there.
I actually like watching Ginger. His style is a really nice combination of solid fundamentals with excellent movement. He also has a very good ring IQ. But to be a fan you have to ignore the peds, the catch weight queen phase, the dodgy decisions, the fact that he seems to have a permanent scowl on his face and many other things.
I remember a few years ago when he couldn't fight Golovkin because he 'wasn't a middleweight' yet. Now he's so roided up, he's up at 175 with less bodyfat than GGG and will struggle to get back to middle. You can't make this **** up. Imagine if he actually ducked Golovkin now because he was too big and wanted to stay at 175, lol.
