Fair post, I still disagree with you about Canelo's stamina I think he takes rounds off and fights in spurts but that's okay it works for him. I think it was a near shut out Canelo won 2 rounds at best IMO. I would like to get your opinion of Canelo-Oscar at 154 who would win and why?
You forgot to mention Salvador Sanchez. Same age and close to the same record. 43-1. I asked this question before......Who in their right mind would call Sanchez green at that time?
sanchez faced pretty much the same learning curve as canelo. only sanchez had a tougher line of opponents from which to hone his skills. today, if sanchez picked up where he left off when he passed, he would need to beat berchelt or davis, then jump up to beat taylor, in order to compare trajectories fairly. i have no doubt sanchez was a much better feather than canelo was a jr welter, but i dont know if the second half of a career would have been equal.
That's not the point of the thread. The question is, why was Canelo considered green at the time he fought Floyd. Thus, the reason for my post.
Saying someone is green completely diminishes the master class Floyd put on. Obviously Canelo has gotten more experience since but he always had the foundation. I knew he was going to be something special when I saw how technically sound and efficient he was against other fighters. I honestly thought Canelo was going to give Floyd trouble (even though I picked Floyd), but I was shocked how easy it was. Floyd is just a bad style for Canelo. Prime vs prime, I would still pick Floyd. And yes, without a doubt Canelo is #1P4P right now. Give the man his due.
Canelo was a world champion and active title holder before he fought Floyd. He even defended his title by defeating the likes of Trout and Mosley. No world champion is 'green'. It was a legit victory for Floyd.
green does not mean incapable, it just means you are not fully matured as a fighter, means youre gonna get better, which was canelos situation. its pretty easy to understand if you dont take it as a slight on your favorite fighter. its just reality.
Feinting should be part of every boxers game. And one has to respect and respond to feints, otherwise you end up giving your opponent free shots.
Floyd won because of his superior skills set. Canelo is and has always been a technical boxer counterpuncher. Styles make fights and that type of style is easier for Floyd to defeat. Floyd was past his. Best when they fought at 36 years old.
Wrong tactics from Canelo and just a bad style match up.Would of fared better had he took a leaf of Maidanas book imo.
