I personally think that Canelo's victory over Kovalev was impressive in the sense of jumping up two weight classes but Kovalev was at the end of the road and didn't even push the fight or use his physical attributes. If we look at history and certain victories that young fighters have over older fighters, it never seems to age well and I think this will be the case with this particular fight.

I think it's a shame we can't know just how good Canelo is, as there's always seems some sleight of hand with him.

Moving up two weight divisions and scoring a KO over a champion is not an easy task, and definitely not something any fighter is capable of doing. Real Boxing fans know this reality very well. The only reason Alvarez gets zero credit for anything he does is because he's being chased by the biggest mentally incapable group in the history of fan bases in this sport, the Gennady "The Tomato Can Devourer" Golovkin group. As years go by and as people completely forget that Golovkin ever existed, thanks to his comical record and zero noteworthy accomplishments, this victory will age far better than you think.

I don't particularly like GGG and it's not like I'm discrediting Canelo but you know he wouldn't want any smoke from the higher tier fresher fighters at 175

I think you are right. Michael Spinks got very little credit for knocking out Gerry Cooney, who, while not as accimplished as Kovalev, was much younger than Sergey, and the size difference between him and Spinks was much bigger.

I think Canelo's win over Kovalev won't age well especially in the case if Kovalev gets stopped early in his next fight or two by not elite fighter. Somebody like Maxim Vlasov. And yes, I think Vlasov would KO current Kovalev quite easily

ROFLMAO! What did GGG do to you steal your G/F ??
GGG has conducted himself like a true champion. There has never been any"popping dirty" & Ped's abuse. No suspect judging. In fact he's been robbed blind by the Vegas corruption as the boxing world knows well
He is 10x the fighter Canelo could ever dream of being. He doesnt need the corruption of Sin City backing him to get success he's earned everything he has through Blood Sweat & Tears. He is STILL the undisputed Peoples World Middleweight Champ & will be until someone LEGITIMATELY beats him

Well, how well has Roy Jones victory over John Ruiz aged?

There is the factor that after defeating Ruiz, Jones dropped back to 175 and was knocked out 37 consecutive time in a row, but by and large his historic HW win is largely forgotten, and its barely been 15 years since then

Of course if Jones had retired right after, or may be fought James Toney at HW, we might remember his HW title win much more positively today

don't most agree that golovkin got robbed in the first fight? are ppl just going to forget that incident by reading an "L" on golovkins boxrec page 10 years from now?

or did u not realize the event was filmed and is available for viewing on the internet for all to see until the end of time? lol. delusion at its finest.

It was a slow and lifeless fight until the knockout. Not calling rig, bit it did seem like shadow dancing for most of it

These kind of comments are just as silly as the kinds that try to downplay everything Alvarez does. Golovkin terrorized the division for years. Any fighter this dominant gets remembered period. It's a shame he didn't take the lineage at some point, but Martinez was kept away from him and eventually lost to Cotto who is possibly the least impactful MW lineal champion of all time. If Canelo never comes back to 160, Golovkin will go down as the more accomplished middleweight. There's really no good argument for it to be otherwise.

    It should age fine.

The only other middleweight to make that jump in semi-recent history is Hopkins (against Tarver). Leonard did it too in a complete joke of a catchweight fight with Lalonde.

So the fight will be remembered.

Not the way I saw it.
It seemed to me a battle between a fighter Kovalev who was trying to impose his size by keeping distance between him and Canelo by using pawing and arm stiffing tactics.
While Canelo's struggle was to try and get past that arm stiffing tactics by Kovalev and try to get the bigger stronger man to have to punch some.
Did'nt seem lifeless to me, but a physical battle to see who could impose their own tactics upon one another.

That ending was brutal that even insinuating it could have been rigged is to me completely out of line.

When Kovelav releases his autobiography we will find out the truth about how the fight actually went down and the real reason why SK was forced to fight only 6 weeks after going to war with Yarde, along with re-hydration clauses and who and who he was approached by,

How? How was that a fix? How do you fake such a KO?
"But Kovalev only threw pity-pat punches". Yeah, no **** Sherlock. The last time he applied power, he ran out of steam and got KTFO by Eleider. Since then he has adapted a new style. Dude is just the oldest 36 we have seen in a while.

    Some people...
