    This is imaginative, creative thinking but it has nothing to do with what actually took place in the 1980s and 1990s. Larry Merchant was an outlier among commentators, and if anything he was more of a throwback to the tastes and sentiments of older generations. This "80s/90s boxiana" thing is a figment of your imagination.

    I don’t like how he always seemed to hate on african boxers. Maybe because he got his azz whopped in Zaire, so anything with “Africa” in it leaves a bad taste in his mouth.
