The capacity for boxing is over 15K, but that in itself doesn't indicate one way or the other if Canelo is losing appeal. Whether Canelo fills the place up or not depends on the magnitude of the fight. Generally a fighters star power is indicated by the PPV's he's able to sell. In the case of Canelo, only DAZN really can estimate how many people subscribe to their services just to see Canelo. Had Canelo-Kovalev been PPV, imo it likely would have done somewhere close to 1 million buys.

He is no Mayweather, but he is pretty ****ing close. Who else is doing these kinds of numbers?
And? He got the 365 million dollar contract because of those results. Canelo´s last two gates have been against less known entities, yet they are strong. Against more known fighters, he will draw even larger gates. The ****head over at the scene who questioned Canelo´s drawing power did an absolute **** poor job. One of the worst articles is recent months.
I think the sales prove that most people thought Kovalev was done and thought it wasn't going to be competitive. I think the vast majority knew Kovalev was definitely finished after they watched his performance against Yarde.
Is Mayweather really that much bigger than Canelo as far as drawing power? You figure the fights he did huge numbers in were fights in which the other side was just as big or bigger than he was as far as drawing power. What are Mayweather's numbers in fights that didn't involve DLH, Pacquiao, and McGregor which are also PPV A level stars?
Guerrero - 9.9M gate. The PPV numbers have been brought into question but it is clear that they did at least 800k or so. Ortiz - 9M gate. 1.25M PPV Maidana - 15M and 14M gates. 900K PPV both fights. Berto - 10M gate, 550K PPV. And people question Alvarez´s drawing power... He is just a step behind.
Show me the numbers. True, to say Kovalev is an unknown fighter would be an exaggeration, but I did not state so. I said Kovalev is less known. He never was a big draw. He did good numbers on regular HBO but less so on PPV and at the box office.
