Canelo likes to fight on Mexican holidays (plus minus a day or two). For example, Amir Khan, Jacobs, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on Cinco de Mayo; Liam Smith, Golovkin (both fights) on Independence Day.
Initially they planned to fight Kovalev in September as well, but weren't able to negotiate with Sergey. Also, there was limited time to promote the Kovalev fight properly.

The first fight, both guys had solid guaranteed purses. Kovalev with got 2 mil and Ward at 5. (Boy oh boy did Roc Nation loose money on Ward)
Ward was guaranteed 6.5 mil:duh for the rematch and Kovalev got 75% of the profits that Main Events made for the event. :duh
Kathy Duva even publicly bitched and moaned about the purses. Which is astonishing considering she is the one who made the deal.
Just shows how full of **** that hag is.

No idea what the RN and Main Events split was. The PPV generated around 7.7 mil in revenue. The cable co. likely took half and then HBO took it´s cut as well. Let´s say Main Events got half of that(at least 1mil).
The gate was only 2 mil. Split that in half and both sides likely walked away with less than 1 mil.
Last but not least, the foreign TV rights. No idea how much those generated but going by rest of the numbers, I doubt it was of any significance.
So all in all, Kovalev likely walked away with pretty much nothing. Manager fees, trainer, taxes, fight camp costs... yeah, he got ****ed over big time.
****ing blows my mind how Duva and Klimas let this **** happen. I swear they must have thought that Kovalev was just gonna walk through Ward and regain his titles.

Ward v Kov did 5 mil on the gate over two fights.

$8 mil isn't a disaster. Its kovolov, a fight nobody thought he would win.

It’s all about PPV buys. I remember idiots laughing at Mayweather’s ticket sales back in the day, yet all his PPVs did far better than expected.

As long as there are 2 men and an argument boxing will never die. Who said it?

That’s pretty weak numbers considering his pay.

Put it this way, I think Pac getting 15mil for his fights and he’s drawing 500-700k PPV buys for decent name opponents. Compare that to Canelo vs angulo, Kirkland, Lara where Canelo is averaging 350k PPV buys but getting paid 35mil per fight.

His bout with Khan is probably most comparable to PACs right with broner and they both did similar numbers there but Canelo got paid triple.

That old PPV model that FLoyd owned is forever gone but even he needed a top dance partner to do great numbers.

What, the hell you talking about? You think Alvarez has always been making 35mil per fight?
Alvarez didn´t get 35 mil per fight because he sold 350K PPV versus Angulo.
Alvarez is getting 35 mil because he had 3 back to back fights that generated over 1mil PPV buys each. DAZN is banking on that popularity.
He has only been paid 35 mil for Jacobs and Kovalev. And likely made as much vs Golovkin based on the PPV sales and live gate.

And Pac is not getting just 15 mil per fight. His last two PPV´s were 15mil guarantees, meaning he made extra based on PPV sales and so.
Alvarez made a 3.5mil guarantee for Khan, plus PPV bonuses. Pacquiaos guarantee for Broner was 4 times as much, yet he sold less PPV´s.

Right, but then dazn signs him for GGG wages but he’s not fighting GGG type of fights, he’s back to the angulo/Kirkland or worse the of fights.

I’m pretty sure dazn threw the bank at Canelo and is losing money, same token I think they turned down Pac for probably less pay. They’re obviously playing the long game, Canelo will hel then develop the brand whereas Pac was on his way out. But I do think at 35 mil and the likes of fielding, Jacobs and kovalev, dazn is definitely overpaying and losing money atm.

Only GGG can bring those sort of numbers for him, or cotto or Chavez. Maybe Eubank Jr would be massive in the UK if eubank can actually even touch that level. But I don’t know how they’re going to get 240mil out of Canelo fights.

The promoters job is to make the event as big as possible and make sure there are no other big events that will clash and cost them viewers but Delahoyas ego wouldn't allow him to pull out of or postpone an event that went up against 1 of the biggest UFC events of the year, that most definitely took away PPV views and live audience from what should have been 1 of the bigger fights of the year
