Featherweight champion and clown...literally! He started out as a circus clown in Mexico. I don't know what made me think of him today, but something reminded me of that gasser of a fight he had with Troy Dorsey. A lot of people think Dorsey won, but both guys just kept throwing punches. Anyway, Paez was a lot of fun. Seemed like a lot of his big wins were squeakers, but much like Fury these days, it also seemed like he was using half of his energy to have a good time rather than win the fight. Also like Fury, some of his outside antics were as entertaining as what he did in the fight, like piercing his own ear in front of reporters with a sowing needle, and weighing in naked singing. I read up on him before posting, and I see his kids went on to fight. Anyway, hope he is doing well these days.
Yeah I remember that fool paez! He used to sport that rooster mohawk... Fought everyone too. Not surprised he's gone on to become a circus clown. Can't spell Payoso without paez!
Really fun fighter to watch, Ricardo Mayorga dropping his hands and letting his opponents punch him, Mayorga got that from Paez only Paez would drop his hands and start bobbing and weaving center ring daring his opponent to punch him. I remember a fight he was dominating and Paez just felt like clowning around to entertain the audience, he started doing jumping jacks center ring in the middle of the round.
Hard to forget Paez. A caracter who could actually entertain despite his shortcomings. Still quite good though.
Good fighter and very entertaining.oddly he was on tv a lot in the uk in the late 80s and early 90s on ITV s fight night program saw highlights of most of his fights I remember his bat man hair cut and no drugs shaved on the side of his Swede ! .really got me interested in international fighters good programme pity it isn't on now.
I saw him at a Southern California fight show a decade ago. He posed for a lot of photos & signed a lot of autographs that night. He had slowed considerably from his fighting days. This sport takes a hell of a toll on people. Hopefully, he's well.
