Roy had much better and quicker left hooks, he would have landed a lot of them on Eddie and stoppped him with one, Roy had quicker hands than anyone Eddie ever fought.
The styles favor Roy. Eddie was a methodical counter puncher, but in the face of Roy's speed and elusiveness I see him being too selective and careful while Roy piles up points. Also, while Roy isn't stopping Eddie (EMM had an excellent chin), he at least had enough power to make EMM think twice about opening up. Jones by clear UD, in a fight that would probably be a pretty dull fencing match. To be honest, I'd favor a prime Roy over every light heavyweight in the last 50 years with the exception of Foster and Spinks. Even as a huge Roy fan, I'll be objective enough to say that Foster and Spinks would have stopped him. But Roy beats the rest.
Jones isn't stopping Eddie you dimwit. The man got up off the canvas from a Spinks right hand that would have knocked 99% of light heavyweights cold. If Spinks couldn't stop him, Roy wouldn't either. I swear, you know absolutely nothing about boxing. Do us all a favor and leave classic - go to general with the rest of the boxing know-nothings.
Roy threw his right hand lead from too far out v B-HOP at 160 and got countered when he did that, a good counter puncher would tag him each time he did that.
So make up your mind. Would Eddie, who was more than just a "good" counterpuncher, tag Roy? Or would Roy overwhelm and stop Eddie? You know, cause Spinks, probably the second biggest puncher in the history of 175, couldn't put Eddie away... but Roy would? You're so confused.
Ha,Ha,Ha,.....if there's a knockout in this fight, it's Roy looking up at the lights. By the way, would Eddie's right cross be the best punch Jones ever faced at Light heavy? I think overall it is and if he gets clipped with it...….
Eddie certainly has a puncher's chance. I think it would be a dull affair. Roy wouldn't open up much for caution of Eddie's power, and Eddie wouldn't open up much for caution of Roy's handspeed. Ultimately, Roy would win by virtue of beating Eddie to the punch, and being more active. Roy also wins simply because he was an all time great, and that's a hill Eddie never quite got to. He had the talent to be an all time great, but never reached his full potential - not consistently, anyway.
Johnson fought nothing like Jones. Even if in prime physical and mental condition, Eddie is gonna have to get to Roy, who had sublime hand and foot speed. Conversely, Johnson was right there to be hit all night long. Johnson was a tough SOB with good hand speed and good power, but he had one way to fight - straight ahead. Jones would not stand still. Eddie would have to time him and try to load up on a home run shot. More likely than not, he doesn't land one and Jones cruises to a UD.
