Not true. The referee in the Kovalev fight didn't even give Kovalev a chance to get up, he moved straight to him, covered him, and waved the fight off. Yes, Kovalev may well have been unable to get up...that's obvious. But, the referee didn't wait very long before waving it off. So, yes, a referee can influence a fight if it involves a knock down. Remember the first Froch v Groves fight, and how George felt the referee was way too quick to step in and call it off? There's that other Froch fight (i forget the guys name) where the opponent said he was told he couldn't win and as soon as Froch had a little success it was stopped. There are hundreds of examples of referees stopping fights too early, and you only have to put a man down for 10 for a knock out to be called. You don't have to actually knock them unconscious. Canelo absolutely can be gfted a knock out with a moody ref on the team...but you obviously know all this.
Jeezus man. What was the point of writing about a hypothetical in this case? Can you point to a canelo knockout where you can say that he was gifted it by the ref?
You said referees don't have much to with knock outs, didn't you? I didn't agree, then i gave you a couple of specific examples of a referee directly influencing a perceived knock out when the downed fighter wasn't actually hurt that bad, then I made a broad point about the hundreds of cases of a similar kind. Again, a referee can 100% get involved and wave a fight off too early, to the benefit of a corrupt fighter, or step in the moment it looks like they can get away with stopping it (as in the Froch example). So, for you to imply that the only way Canelo can be aided by corrupted officials is via a judges score card, and not a bent referee stopping it too quickly, or when the other fighter isn't that hurt etc...is not something i agree with. That's all...oh, wait, you wanted an example...what about Kovalev? Did the referee move over Kovalev and wave the fight off without starting a count or waiting to see if the Russia moved, tried to stand, whatever? You might say "it was obvious Kovalev wasn't getting up" and "the ref waved it off for safety reasons". Was it obvious?. Listen, the problem is Canelo has a bad stink about his person and it always makes people hesitant to give him due praise. It's unfortunate, but he's brought much of it upon himself.
There's literally an undefeated living, breathing, destroying monster in the division that Canelo peaked his head into but you're calling Canelo a monster.
