Tex could take it and he had endurance but that's about it, George was strong, could hit well to the body and head and put punches together well when in range. Chuvalo's losses to Bonavena and Patterson were close, some thought he won both of them and both of them like George would have beat Tex also.

In a battle of the chins, George Chuvalo takes a hard fought decision over Randall Tex Cobb.

Chuvalo was the better boxer and would probably win on points.

Always felt like George was underrated. He gave prime Ali two tough fights and had plenty of other good moments. It seems sometimes people see him as some kind of human punching bag and that is not true.

I think cobb's chin is actually better, but either way he loses this fight. He has no jab to keep Chuvalo at bay, slow feet, no head movement and leaky defense. Chuvalo actually had decent ring IQ, was avery good body puncher and had good combinations and ring generalship.

That being said, cobb was a big dude and had above average power. Chuvalo would win but he'd get lumped up and rocked in a fight that starts off nice but becomes incredibly ugly.

    I would confidently pick Chuvalo.

While Ali ultimately beat Chuvalo by a lopsided margin, I can't imagine Cobb giving Ali half as much trouble as Chuvalo did. Chuvalo was actually a much better boxer than his reputation as a human punching bag would have you believe.

His fight with Floyd Patterson was one of the best fights of the decade, and it came while Floyd was enjoying a major career resurgence. He also earned his spurs as a contender with wins over Mike Dejohn and Doug Jones. From what I can tell he was pretty hot and cold, but he was also a legit contender when he was on form.

Chuvalo, by points naturally, in a rough, hard fought mini classic!

Horrible match up for Tex, he has nothing positive, that is better than George; Chuvalo by comfortable decision.
