The only ones where 2019 has a comparison greatness wise is Fly and Bantam. 'Speedy' Dado is a very forgotten, underrated fighter though. I need to learn a bit more about him.

Not totally fair to 2019 when you have ATGs like Ike Williams, SRR, Archie Moore and Gavilan, who at the very least are Top 10 in their weight classes All Time, with these guys being top 5.

Maxim is an awful style match up for Canelo at 175. A good mover, intelligent, sharp left hand and great at spoiling. Even the quicker Robinson and Paterson had trouble landing with volume, combined with the spoilling. Canelo is too low output and a bit too stationery to get the job done. Would be an awful bout.

Those are some terrible takes in many instances. Especially surrounding Canelo, better defensively than Robinson? Would beat Moore because of a tight guard . Hell to the no.

Heavyweight was worse back then. Top 2 and overall. Louis was finished already.

Sugar Ray Robinson would murder Crawford and Spence. He'd beat up both Canelo and Golovkin also.

That's true. Louis never looked the same after that two year retirement. Came back and looked a ghost of himself against Charles. Then all he had left in the tank was a win over past prime Bivins and washed up Savold.

While I can see Ezzard Charles having an outside chance of outboxing Fury to a win instead of getting overwhelmed by his weight and size, I think Wilder does a Marciano type number on him. Ezzard is probably the GOAT at light heavyweight but I wouldn't rank him well H2H at heavyweight.

See, I only did the weight classes they both had in common to keep it fair and compare apples to apples. We have Ring ratings for both years in these classes. If I were to guess, using my own judgement, I would say that Usyk should fight the heavyweight champs Charles and Joe Louis because they both weighed the same as him. But Usyk isn't ranked right now in Ring since he moved up to heavy. The top two cruiserweights according to Ring are Breidis and Dorticos. If you feel it's unfair to simply match modern cruiserweights to past heavyweights, or to list them twice, then you could maybe have them fight other guys around that weight class like Rocky Marciano, Jersey Joe Walcott, or Jimmy Bivins? Alternately, you could continue to use Ring's ratings and simply pick the number 3 and 4 heavyweights Lee Savold and Joey Maxim as their opponents.

I think there are more active fighters right now than back then.

No, he's compared the best from 1950 to the current year.

You would be correct. According to boxrec almost twice as many:
    Active Boxers
    1950: 12,233
    2018: 23,535
    Total Bouts
    1950: 21,544
    2018: 25,953
    https://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=101907&start=75

Here's an interesting wrinkle. There were more active boxers in 1950 than in any subsequent year until 1997. According to these numbers we're experiencing a renaissance in boxing popularity here in the twenty-first century. You have to go back to the 20s and 30s to see as many active fighters as now. 1950 was midway through a rapid decline in popularity. For 1946 we have 17,500 boxers in the database. 1930 has more active boxers than any other year in the database with 30,006 fighters and 46,826 bouts, the second highest number of fights in history after 1931.

    World Population
    1930- 2.07 billion
    1950- 2.5 billion
    2019- 7.5 billion

Compared to 1950 we've tripled the population and only doubled the boxing talent pool. And since 1930 we've increased the Earth's population 360% while seeing a decline in talent pool of 16%. 84% goes into 360% 4.2 times; so boxing is about 1/4 as popular now as it was in 1930. Compared to 1950 the ratio is about 1.5 so now boxing is roughly 2/3rds as popular as it was in 1950 by percentage of population.
